HI studio54,
Yep a landy man, and a keen diver when not surfing.
I'm 100k west of albany so let me know your plans. I don't have much time on my hands but advance notice may be the go.
Brett.

No longer a diver. I did it while living on Norfolk Island (and on a trip to Cairns) but not since coming back to live in Oz.
I must admit, it wasn't bad and it was always something I wanted to try but I'd need a very good reason to do it again.
I wish I'd sold all my gear years ago - now it's probably unsaleable. :(

former commercial diver and marine scientist, I probably did 3-4k dives in 5 years - very rarely a recreational diver since changing professions. Still own all my own gear, highly unlikely to ever get rid if it... hate to say it, but recreational diving is boring as you do 'nothing' except look around. much more interesting if you go with a task to do :)

Depends on what you call boring,
I am now into the rebreathers, 100+ meter dives to wrecks that have never been filmed and we can count the number of divers ever on these wrecks on one hand..
Thats what drives me to get up in the morning, get in the cold water and go forth and dive ...
But you can never stop learning about the critters!

I'd count videography as a 'task' :) did a bit myself back in the early 90's for the job - hardly broadcast quality, but that wasn't the purpose...
every dived the lonsdale wall in the rip at port phillip heads? awesome place for deep video work, but you have to be quick or you will end up in tasmania on the tide change...

Yep, keen diver here. That's on my todo list, as well as Ningaloo reef now we live here.
Just need to sort my kit out and get some new tanks (Just found out my ones from the UK can't be used here!) and I'll be planning some trips.

convert the UK ones into air storage tanks for the landy :) they fit up beside the chassis under the doors and hold plenty of air for a bunch of refills!

Good idea, but from what I've been told, no dive shop will fill them without an Australian test sticker on them, and I can't get them tested as the valves apparently aren't up to spec here! :(

you can have the valves replaced and a test done to bring them back to usability, but of course this costs less than a new tank, so some places don't want to know about this...
or change the valve yourself to one intended for aircompressors and fill em yourself with either a garage or onboard air compressor for use in the vehicle... (obviously not diving).

If you have details of the types of places that would/could do this, I'd appreciate a PM - I've only asked at dive shops so far, and as you say, they're not that interested for obvious resons!

PADI DM, lived in Jeddah on the Red Sea for 7 years, nothing else to do but dive there, off roading was only done when the weather or coast guard stopped us diving
Spent tooooo much dosh on underwater photography, but hey it was worth it.

I can do it tap the old valve thread and redo it to suit normal truck air fittings...
then adapt that to a nitto jack on a one way valve...
