Saggy Defender windscreen wiper

Hi again!
Another trouble that needs to be fixed: my windscreen wiper (driver's side) is mostly sweeping the metal panel between the windscreen's lower edge and the vent flaps. This is driving me nuts, and it isn't very useful either.

The local LR dealer made two (failed) attempts to rectify it (whilst having the car in anyway), including changing the wiper arm, to no avail. They only charged me a rather hefty sum for their work:mad: :mad: . Well then...

Now, before I let these amateurs again doing a job they are not quite up to I attempt to do it myself. As I am convinced I am not the only one around with this problem I wonder if anyone here can give me a hint what the real cause might be? Any ideas or expereinces?

Take of the wiper arm of the cog (the bit that comes out of the dash) and them place it back on but turn it a bit first. So that when the cog turns to its stop postions it will sit at the bottom of the window and not scrap.
The only thing to check is that the arm is not worn inside so that it can't grip the cog. Not a big thing if this is the case just replace the arm.

This is what has happened to loads of my defenders in the past , and this has fixed it so i would try this first:)

And maybe put a bit of aluminium foil in between the arm and the shaft.

Unless it has changed since my 110 the bit the arm goes onto is held on the shaft by a grub screw. If this is loose it will allow the "bit the arm goes onto" to turn on the shaft. Even if hard to turn, the grub screw may not be gripping. Haven't had this problem on the 110, but have on the 2a which has the same setup.

Pull the dash pad off and check the wiper box is not stuffed....
