Hi guys, just after a bit of advice if anyone can help. Ive had my 94 classic rangie for 12 months now and love it, (apart from putting a new engine in at the dealer 6 wks after buying it due to a porous block) going from drive to reverse and back there sounds like a chain in the transfer case has a bit of slack in it and whacks in and out? is this much to worry about. it drives well on the road just makes a racket when parking etc. Do these go well on gas?.

any help will be greatly appreciated

This is one of those difficult ones to answer as you could do with listening for yourself but from the description, it's probably just wear on the drive train. There's always going to be some 'clonk', on an auto, when going from neutral into a gear as it'll just be taking up the slack.

What's excessive?

Well, I'm sure someone will be along shortly with a better description. ;)
