Yeah I've seen [pics only] these on LR's before years ago too.........What interested me was them saying/showing that you simply fitted them like a spare tyre!!!!.......Now I'm interested - yet another toy to put on my wishlist........BTW - Shorty how did the head gasket job go?

Well spotted Shorty!
Great stuff eh?
I saw a set on a big ute, on the telly a few months ago - maybe it was on 'Getaway' up in Alaska, amazing!

What do they use to stop them from rotating up and hitting the body work?

Now there's a point!
Hey BigJon, doesn't really matter when you're in a 3 ton + Yankee truck, eh?

Hey BigJon, found this from the Mattracks site: (quoted)
How do you put the tracks on and off? How long does it take to install the tracks?
Installing MATTRACKS on your vehicle is as straight forward and about as easy as changing tires! You jack up your vehicle and remove the tire, and simply bolt the MATTRACKS track assembly to the wheel studs. There is one more bolt for the anti-torque linkage for each corner, and that is it! You’re all set to go.
I wonder where the 'other' bolt goes?:D
Curiously, getting a price for the 'system' is not as easy as fitting the 'Mattrack'.......
Also, they must have bl00dy heavy tyres and rims in the US, seems each of these units weighs in at around 400 pounds,
as they say: it's as easy as changing a tyre!!! (if you're a muscle man).... Didn't know my Disco had such heavy wheels n tyres! Geez I must be a strong bugger, I rotate all of mine about every 5,000 ks......
Great gadget, tho'. Wonder how long the rubber belts last?

The anti torque linkage would be the one. I guess it is a fore and aft rod. They must fit a bracket on the body or chassis for it.

You'd want to make sure you had the guard clearance too for when you use all your wheel travel.

Funny how some interesting ideas come from Land Rover:D
Cuthbertson did it more than forty years ago for Land Rover and it looks like tracks will soon be on anything! Enjoy....
$20,000 to $50,000 US? I'll send em an email and ask how much for my Disco 1........:D :D :D
or just go here: http://www.lr-mad.co.uk/tracked.html

OMG I dont care if the missus would kill me or in fact how unpractical they would be, or that I would have to sell my children on the black market to buy them, damn do I want a set - for the mud up here in the top end they would be the ducks guts.
years ago a mate had a 8 wheeled thing like out of the bannana splits (for those of you old enough to remember), he put tracks on it and it was impossible to bog any where and it floated as well but only had a 2 cylinder air cooled motor.

That is the issue I have seen documented about this type of conversion in the past. I recall many years ago a test on a Rangie (I think) fitted with tracks up in the snow belt of Vic or NSW. Would have been in Overlander Magazine, or similar.

yeah okay if you live in snow country and you can put them on and leave them on over winter otherwise your going to have carry them in a trailer, drive to the mud and then put them on after jacking the car and removing the tyres lots of work for an afternoon of mud splashing and then you got the security issue of having your wheels stoeln from your trailer while your out playing.

Could have been the same ones I saw, I think they were from Cuthbertson?? in the UK they were fitted to a dark green Rangie in Asquith and Johnstones workshop, when they used to be in Planthurst road, Carlton NSW. Probably around 1985ish.

I saw the Mattracks fitted on some of those bloody great V8 SUV's in Alaska last year. They make a lot of noise when moving, but the sure look impressive.

Yeah, that's the video I checked out. I want the big yellow Landy in Qigger's post. Give it to me right now.
Still waiting on parts, thanks for asking Byron. Tweaked the head down by 2 to 3 ft\lb, the weather has eased at last, and her temp and water are under some control. Hopefully, parts arrive this week. Just glad I don't need to go far most times.:(
