move to Brisbane , no water round here , that will fix the problem of letting in water :D :D :D
Joking aside i would say get it welded up or at least get a welder to have a look at it , and see what they can do with it

I've heard of a few Discos having the problem.

Some photos would be good so we can all check ours out.

It's a common problem on the early Discos (200 & 300TDi).

Anyone handy with a welder should be able to sort it. :D

Mine was also cracked around both mounts at the base of the firewall. There is a reinforcing plate on the inside in the foot wells and it cracks arount the outside edge of the plate. Seems to be a common problem.
To repair mine, I lifted the carpet and rubber/foam mat underneath and welded around the plate from the inside. I didn't get all of the cracks, but returned that area back to close to original strength. I looked at drilling out the spot welds that hold the plates on and removing them to repair the cracks, but decided that the time required didn't justify the slight improvement in the repair. Any small cracks that were left, I sealed with body sealer and then sprayed body deadener over the top.
It's not the best repair and very difficult to get at. The body really needs to be removed from the chassis or the engine removed to get at it from the outside. The plate on the inside needs to be larger also to distribute the load over a larger area.
I will watch mine, and if it cracks again (which I expect will happen along the edge of the welds) I will probably cut the whole area out including the mount and replace the now brittle steel with new material.

Good luck with yours. Let us know how it goes.

(Wach out for the fuel lines that run under the drivers side along the top of the chassis!!!)

Mine cracked on the N/S It sounded like a rattle in the glovebox area.[ the metal popping back & forward] I have heard of both sides going. It may have started when I hit a pot hole which set off the hazard warning lights. I turned the engine off, restarted & it reset. Welded it a few years ago. No problem since.

Problem with the dash and tail lights could be a blown fuse in the fusebox ( no.8 I think ) under the instrument panel.

It is a common enough on the series one disco's.

There is a technical bulletin that covers the problem. It was considered a problem for vehicles operated in heavy or arduous conditions. There was a related repair kit(backing plate) available under the TB.

Had mine done on the 94 V8. mine cracked on the drivers side during a Cape york trip. When mine had gone the whole drivers side had dropped.:( Check the gaps at your rear chassis points, and under the rear wheel arches at the load pads.

I hit a huge pot hole and ended up of the road  ,,,, So the insurance company accepted a claim for single vehicle accident.

This is a known fault with Disco Is. Security system issues. There is a fix for it, involves cutting one of the security ECU circuit board conductors.
