Thanks,

Thats weird, my original tyres were 245 70 R16 and then went to 245 75 R16. I was told that the larger tyre would mean that I am going faster than the speedo said.

Oh well - might explain the lack of speeding tickets.;)

As far as i know 235/70/16 was the largest tyre factory fitted to D1's.
My speedo reads slow by about 6% so if i go up slightly it be even.

I put 235/70/16 as original, then 235/80/16 as replacement in the first one and get that my speedo reading @ 100 i will be doing about 94kmh
The other one says I'll be doing 106kmh

I don't get it

God I feel dumb sometimes

Neither of those calculators will recognise 31 x 10.5 x 15 as a valid tyre size which makes them pretty well useless for working with the 4WD tyres many of us are using.

When I had 255/70 16 tyres on my D1 the speedo was spot on.
Now with 225/75 16 it reads low by about 5%ish.

How did the 255's fit ? looking to swap my 265/75's for 255/70's.

It even does the 7.50 x 16 tyres.

They were on the car when I bought it and as far as I can tell they didn't rub anything. I took the car offroad twice in the time they were on. On the second trip I put a gash in the sidewall big enough to put my hand in. Then switched to the legal sized 225/75 16.
The previous owner did mention he would get 245/70 16 next time around but I forget what the reason was.

31's are 787.4mm in overall height which is around about a 235/80/16 (782.4mm) tyre

Just something else my dumb mind came up with...... a 29" tyre rotates approx 5% more times per mile than a 31"........ does that mean the bigger tyre will last longer?

My head hurts.....who started this thread
