They were saying on the news here that this train could go from Sydney to Brisbane in 1 hour and 40 minutes.
Warning needs high speed download band width.

Actually, the only high speed derailment the TGV has had so far was at over 250 kph.
The whole train derailed but there were only two minor injuries.
Not bad and even at 500+ with a lot more people on a TGV than a 747, the odds of surviving a crash are in favour of the train.

And I thought the TGV was fast! But haven't they got excellent tracks in france!!!! Like when they put the XPT onto our tracks based on the british rails version that was doing 220km/h??? the XPT was limited to 160km/h due to the tracks. It'd be unreal to have that down here also, but they'd need to do one mumma of an upgrade. I wonder how much current that thing pulls! Probably still a lot less power than an aircraft.

Indeed!! If one was to email that link directly to Mr. Bracks, I think it would bring tears to his eyes!

Thanks drivesafe! Saw it in the news several times last night, truly amazing!
I particularly liked the shot where this super TGV passed under a bridge, so that's what 10 kilometres a minute looks like... and the engineers in the cockpit were completely unshaken, amazing!
Never happen here tho'......
The XPT from Casino to Sydney does it in 12 hours, wowwie!!!!!
On one little old wiggly line........
Done it, once, and never again...
That'd be fun at a level crossing, hahahahaha!!! Watch out! What train? I blinked.

Couple of points folks, as much as I would love to have one of those here, we don’t have the population and we do have much greater distances, so not likely to happen.
The other thing is that thanks to a number of brain dead retards that reckoned they could beat a train to a number of level crossings, all high speed operations in NSW are now limited to the Short North to Sydney ( from Maitland ) and all other areas have had the maximum speed reduced, in many cases to 120 kph.
Cheers.

Lived in the UK when they were doing the speed trials for XPT. As a kid it was fun to travel knowing they were to trying to see how fast it could go.

Don't bag it till you've done it, scary feeling holding out a cane sleeve on an icy metal platform at 0600hrs whilst a freight train rolls by at supposedly 25kph. Then the ***** accelerates by the time your off the platform he's doing 60+kph and your nipples are frozen solid.
