Briton Turns His Land Rover To Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

April 4, 2007 9:25 p.m. EST

Nidhi Sharma - All Headline News Staff Writer
London, England (AHN) - In an attempt to prove his love for his wife, a British man from Isle of Wright turned his Land Rover to "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang", an all time favorite car model from the 1960's film that goes by the same name.
Retail store manager Nick Pointing spent thousands of dollars and four years to make his car into the same model as shown in the movie. Now the couple plan to take a 12-month career break and tour the world with the car raising money for charity.
This is London quotes his wife Carolyn as saying, "It's like a dream come true." However it wasn't an easy dream for the couple as husband Nick puts, "I went to various firms for help, but when they heard I wanted to build a replica of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang they looked at me as if I was a nut. So I've done it all myself."
While the vehicle cannot fly like its movie counterpart, it taught Pointing to weld and do a lot of technical stuff. The project has dominated their lives since 2003.

Every time someone wants to do something stupid, they raise money for charity to justify their stupidity.

LOOK ITS COMING DOWN HERE

This week the finished car passed its MoT and the couple are ready for the trip of a lifetime as they drive 12,000 miles to Australia - via India - to raise money for the Earl Mountbatten Hospice, Multiple Sclerosis Society and the World Wildlife Fund.
The drive is expected to take four months.
Mrs Pointing has collected a huge array of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang memorabilia, including some of the original 1960s merchandise such as pop-up books and board games.

I once met a bloke from the Isle of Wight who was born there and had never been off it in 18 years. For his 18th Birthday he got a ticket to Perth here in WA.

We are talking about an Island only about 12 miles from mainland UK for f@ck sake! You can see it plain as day, in fact in the summer you can jet ski over there for the day.
