First I thought so, too, but then it came to me that the MB 5cyl diesel engine was a 3.0 l (to the best of my knowledge).

G'day All, Uncle Ho from the picture supplied by the seller it doesn't have the extended bonnet ah la Stage1 S3/110 so if it's got a 3.9 Isuzu it must have a rear mounted radiator LOL or it's air cooled cause a 3.9 wont fit in that space (4 cyl engine bay) cheers Dennis:wasntme:

No, toymota have never made a 5cyl motor to the best of my knowledge. The MB 5 cyl diesel came in 2.9 ltrs for the early ones and i think 3ltr later on.

If its a 4 cylinder, sounds more like a Perkins motor - was common in the UK at one point.

Not much info around on it but they definitely had a 5-cyl in the MWB Cruisers, I think it was a diesel. This from Wikipediea:
*1990 (http://en.allexperts.com/e/0/1990.htm) - Introduction of new-generation diesel engines, the five-cylinder, SOHC 1PZ and six-cylinder, SOHC 1HZ (http://en.allexperts.com/e/0/1hz.htm) diesel — still current with minor modifications to this day. Later the same year, wagon versions had a complete makeover....
The 1PZ is a 3.4 L (3469 cc) Inline 5 SOHC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SOHC) diesel engine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diesel_engine). Bore is 94 mm and stroke is 100 mm, with a compression ratio (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compression_ratio) of 22.7:1. Output is 113 hp (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hp) (84.5 kW (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KW)) at 4000 RPM (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RPM) with 116.9 ft·lbf (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foot-pound_force) (158.3 Nm (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nm)) of torque (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torque) at 2600 RPM (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RPM).

If this was on evilbay it could be anything, description on that site is sometimes erroneous, to say the least.... wikipedia is not necessarily accurate, either...

Toyota may have made a 5 cylinder diesel, but I don't think any of the models imported into Australia have had anything but 4 or 6 cylinder.
They did have a variety of diesels in the 3 to 3.5L capacity, but they were 4's.

My bet is it'll turn out to be a 3.9 Isuzu.
The description will have been mixed up by someone not very familiar with LR products.
Looking around on the net to see what it may have been, indicates that the 3.9 is widely reported as a 3.8 on a lot of sites.
Mercedes Benz apparently have produced a 3.8 5 cylinder though (according to google)

This vehicle was advertised a while ago on ebay with a more detailed description. From memory it has an isuzu 3.6 in it, number of cylinders is probably a typo. Could be wrong about this. From memory, the seller described it as being in perfect condition, a daily driver and the chassis had been rustproofed with lanotec but then again it is being sold by a used car dealer so he may also claim it is also a past winner of the paris-dakar.
