Hi, new to the site and like it. Maybe someone in here can help me. I have an ex-army trailer that I bought at auction in Townsville, but it's missing the pintle ring and assembly ie all I have is a 6" draw bar with 6 studs. Does anyone have one of these or know where I can get one? I had heard from some ex-army fellas that they just throw them away once they're a bit worn, so they must be still available new, but from where??? I'm also keen for a used one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Matt.

most truck trailer supplie shops should be able to help you out...
As for getting an ex mil one the replacement attitude for them is "if in doubt chuck it out" they get red xx's and then turfed into the recylce bin.
I know we dont have any here on amberly (I want a free one too).
For it to be missing the adaptor plate as well (the bit that bolts onto the 6 bolts on the front of the tube) means that the trailer was probabley jack knifed at some point and the plate was bent.
That being the case if the trailer is more that 10 years old and had a flat tyre at the same time then the ADF may have xx'd the trailer as beyoned economical repair. Not so much just because of the bent plate but because in the event of a jackknifing the whole tow bar is supposed to be crack checked, which means even if nothing else is wrong the trailer needs a repaint.

Thanks. Yeh, the trailer is over 10 yrs old for sure, but it was the best of the bunch that were up for auction. It was the only one that didn't have a decommisioned lable on it and appears to be nothing wrong with it appart from the missing pintle ring (and clapped out shocks). Don't know if it was jack knifed, I would have thought that the studs on the end of the draw bar would have given before the bracket that bolts onto would, but they appear to be fine. Would you know who to contact to try and find out where the ADF order replacement pintle rings (lanette rings) from?
Am a little bit puzzled as to what purpose the trailer would have performed in the ADF, it's not the normal aluminium bodied trailer with frame and canopy that I have normally seen (then again I'm not in the green machine), but it is a flat bedded steel body with a rectangular frame in the middle. Am thinking maybe a generator carrier or something. Anyone got inside knowledge? You'll probably expect photos but haven't got any (trailer is collecting dust at my parents place while I find the tow hitch).

Sounds like a workshops trailer, flat bed with wheel archers and little tool boxs there???

No tool boxes, just webbing in the side rails to keeps in the jerry cans (or maybe something else with similar dimensions). I'm sure the tool boxes would have come in handy. Was chasing some ex-army storage containers at the auctions in Townsville for a while (the plastic ones), but I was amazed at what people were willing to pay for them, over $150 each. My old man has some old steel ex-army ammo boxes, make great tool boxes for the bigger tools. Wish I could get a hold of a few of them too.

I think the non-military among us will need photos. Doesn't sound like a workshops trailer - they are a little like a box trailer with the rear open and benches over the wheels. (I did say a LITTLE like.) In short -they have raised sides and a well centre (but open at the rear). Your sounds like it has raised centre and lower sides - am I right?

it may have been a beach lighting/generator trailer.
if its esentially a flat bed with the trailers wheels in raised guards with a rectangular frame in the center running up down the length of the bed then thats what it is..
A genny sits in the frame and is towed into positon and set up like one of those lighting trailers you see on worksites or some field events. The difference being that the genset can be lifted off with the lights and set up on the ground so that the trailer can be used as a stores trailer.
Without pics thats going to be my best guess.

G'day All, Matt any good fitter machinist should be able to turn up the missing bit that holds the pintle ring into the trailer, yes the original was a casting that had been machined and ground, it's all basically round with 6 holes on a PCD (pitch circle diameter) with the central hole to suit the Pintle ring, grease nipple to lube the shaft and 3 gussets on the front, anyway good luck with it cheers Dennis:wasntme:

Thanks Sam, I tried to get you but no answer. I'll try again later.
Here's some pics for those who are trying to work out what it used to be used for. The frame on it is not attached or in it's original position, but close to it. I noticed it has L5T stencilled on it in a few places and that it has a xx sticker on it.

G'day All, Just when you think you have seen everything, something else pops up, mate that is unusual, anyway it looks like you have your bits to enable towing cheers Dennis:wasntme:

Sounds like dave was on the money with it being a genset trailer. I'm looking forward to towing it to see what it tows like. Heading up to Fraser in a couple of weeks, if I get it going and reg by then I might think about taking my trail bike up on it and give it a test run. I look forward to setting it up as a camper. My brother has been at me for ages about getting it off me. He wanted to cut the draw bar off and put on an A frame so he could mount a fridge on there. I didn't like that idea.

Yep, definately keen. Let me know. Thanks.
How'd you go with that other bracket?
For the rest of you guys I picked up the pintle ring today and also got the pintle hook aswell. Now I'm pretty much set to go.

I think what you read as L5T is actually 1.5T, but I don't think these are a one and a half ton trailer. The standard trailer if I remember is 1/4 ton and the bigger one with brakes and bigger wheels is half ton.
I haven't seen one with shocks, but I've never looked under a workshop trailer.
The current generator trailer has two axles.

thats the older version of the one i was talking about... (didnty know there was an older version of what I was describing)
picture that same trailer but with the genny having an extendable light stand on it with 2 flood lights at about 1000w a piece and your on the money.
The newer ones look well, newer being a galved chassis with checker plate on the deck amd angled wheel arches. the genset is also set up to be forklift unloadable..
