I mentioned in the Intoductions section that I'm new to all this and I am wondering if anyone knows of / or is able to provide me with lessons in the basics of off road driving to prevent any kind of mishaps and muppetry displayed in that YouTube video etc. Of course I am wiling to pay with cash/beer/whatever :)

I'm in Sydney area and I pick up my very own Discovery on Wednesday so getting out and about to places nearby isn't so much of an issue any more.

Sam, as you are in Sydney, I'd really recommend joining either the LROC http://www.lroc.com.au/ or RRC http://www.rangeroverclubnsw.asn.au/index.htm

Membership includes free 4WD training.

Well worth it.

I'll be easy enough to spot - I'll be the bloke no-one has seen before looking confused :)

personally i wouldn't recomend the lroc we paid to renew our membership fee in oct of last year and they have still to this day not recognised our renewal after numerous emails to the secutary (even sent them one from my email incase ians wasn't etting through) and even approached some one at the club on a club night and asked and they said they were getting it sorted...........

personally i'm disgusted with the level of service, and i dont care what any one says i dont care if they are volenteers, if you volenteer to do a job full fill that job and do it properly, they seemed quick enough to take the money we have proof that we paid throught paypal..

but will not reply to emails to rectify this problem..NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL

Sam,
I wish more first time 4WD owners would take your approach. I've seen way to many people buy their 1st 4WD and not have a clue how to use it.

Good luck and have fun.

Sam. Pity you didn't go to Ace's. I found they were a great way to learn. Lots of landys there to help and guide you through it all.

I had the same problem with the paypal facility in October, eventually got it sorted, but I would have to agree communication is not one of their strong points.

I want to have fun and enjoy my new vehicle without putting myself or anyone else in danger. More to the point I don't want a video of me looking like a tit ending up on Youtube :)

It's a 1997 Discovery SE7. 3.9L V8.

It's an Executive Model with leather seats, cruise control, sunroof and just about every other extra you can think of but which won't be used.

Oh, and it's blue.

If you are paying in person I don't think you will have any issues, the problem seems to be with where the paypal notification goes and a bit of an internal communication problem.

I don't know what gives with communications. I've emailed the Secretary a couple of times with no response.

I wonder if the email forwarding is working. There were some problems with that when I was editor some years back.

I'll ring the secretary tonight.

Dullbird, have you been getting the LROC News? If not, I'll PM you some phone numbers.
