Should've been here when a 4wd touring club ripped up Alstonville over Easter, none were driving Land Rover products, all had an encounter with the 'law'...

lots of dudes removing big spotties from the roof racks, for fear of defect notices, the local 'boys in blue' also measured height.... some lift jobs are just a little bit tooo much it seems, when much sunshine can be seen asunder the springs:D :D :D

a day later several still managed to bog solid on our south beach;

tyres, lift kits and attitude not withstanding....

but a nice lightweight disco 1 will go anywhere;)

suckers.......

Goodonya, pity we cant identify all the bogans that do that sort of stuff and name n shame them.
I spend 10-12 hours a day on the road and come across that sort of stuff most days. Would be great if they took your approach and worked out how much they are actually achieving by driving like that and whether the potential loss of life is worth it.

Reminds me of the piece Jeremy Clarkson did with a new RR, a Cherokee, his own 100 Series, etc - and a Series 2 Landie (not Disco).

The Series drove around the stopped-in-the mud Cherokee etc.

Clarkie,

Just read your other forum post. I think I'm right in saying you wasted your breath (or is that typing) on telling them what for.

I live in a remote town where everyone knows who drives what and yet there are still idiots who think... I drive the only purple SWB MQ Patrol with a light bar, 36" JT's, body lift and personalised plates so nobody will know its me destroying the bush tracks and clowing around! Stupidity can't be bought and is usually not prepared to listen either

You are also right about the speeding. Its just not worth it and you really get no further. How many times do you see someone overtake only to get stuck behind the line of cars in front of you!

"I drive an 80 who needs mods?"

I think that about sums things up.

There's a 'club' that gets together, fortnightly, at a local hall in Alstonville.

All run big Jap rigs, about twenty big trucks at a gathering on the tarmac.

They seem to be a classic case of keeping up with the Joneses, bigger lifts, more lights, more aerials, bigger bars and roof racks, bigger tyres.

No wonder in a small locale, we have so many 'offroad' supply businesses, dedicated to overloading shabby jap crap with unnecessary 'accessories', so important to deliver kids to school...

laser cut print stickers seem to be the current 'go'

on the back window of one: '**** off jack, jim lives here'
another: 'bush pig' (and a female drives that one, and a good foot high lift, too, on a 90 patrol lwb)
more: 'keeping the dream alive'... no doubt a reference to John Laws/yota

see that mob and laugh, truly amazing.... john chapman was right, when he setup ome a generation ago - i should've believed him and taken a franchise... cant beat a 100% markup!

Thats great clarkey, sorry to hear that your old mates are still at it with your X wife, im lucky I suppose as I dont really hear from my X wife unless it's about the kids and I dont really care what they say about me anyway.

As far as speeding 4wd's go I think everyone on here that has read anything I have posted about road safety knows that im with you all the way there and you would have had to be an idiot to speed over easter as it was double demerit points and double the fines if caught and they still were speeding.

If that doesnt proove that they are the ones that are a bit short of brain cells then nothing would.

I will happill admit that before speed limits were introduced in the NT I opened up the Disco to see what she would do and got 145kmh for a short period but mainly sat around 120 as I didnt want to not be able to control it if I had a blow out or if I hit something.

I will also admit that I have had speeding fines but never more than 5kmh over except 1 where I had just got a new company car and I didnt realise I was going 15kmh over.

Nobody is imune of making a mistake and creeping over the limit but purposly pushing other cars to speed or overtaking dangerously just so you can speed is not worth the risk, the fuel or the minicule saving in time as you stated.

Good on ya clarkey but I wouldnt get too personal on a forum and I wouldnt worry about what they say, they dont have a land rover so their opinions dont matter anyway, proof they have bad decission making skills.

Cute bunny though

Its fun....

To admit fault on the Forum was a laugh.......

To have a 80 that needs mods is normal......

As for my Avtar............ It was on a Dyno!!!!!!!..... A rolling Road Dyno....
We all know Defender Speedo's are inaccurate.... that was only 105 in real speed... i was running 28's of a freelander..............lol

Notice how i can get booted from every other Forum but this one???

Clarkey,
all i can say is good on you, imbeciles standing out for all and sundry to see, deserve a serve, and they admitted it by the look of it, you should have named them if they were stickered up, or at best made a phone call, I am sure the road warriors down there would have dealt with them.

I totally agree with you on the driving part, during my trips to/from hospital over the last 2 days, i was getting infuriated with the attitude of drivers who think that they must be infront of you at all cost. worst offenders are dunnydoor drivers who in their bog standard commo must be confused and think that they are in bathurst zig zagging thru traffic only to arrive at the next set of lights only 1 car in front of you, or the prado/cruiser/territory/patrol driver that cant stand the thought of a landrover actually overtaking them or even near them. I usually just laugh at them but after driving a couple hundred k's over 2 days on very little sleep i got peeved and on my way home some smart A in a territory was trying to cut me off in the old 2 lane into 1 caper i manged to keep him at bay with some decisive moves and a bit of right boot that wiped the smirk of his oversized falcon wagon driving face. And just to add i almost never speed and if i do its by 2-3k, my last speeding ticket was 1989.

I went from Alice Springs to Aileron and back on the weekend. Did 110 - 120 kph on the way up, sat on about 95 kph on the way back. The trip home was much more relaxing :D and a lot better for fuel economy.

Had two special drivers tonight on the way home. One was a P plater driving a 4Wd with 20 inch bling wheels the other was an older rougher looking vehicle. Both were up my clacker and overtook round a corner with their engines screaming. Pulled in just in time to not have a head on!

Why PM???

Let it be in the open and get it off our Chest.

Ned. Thank you for being honest and not getting involved.

Tom, it was not a direct hit at you, unless you were driving one of the cars.

I only saw one person behind the wheel and that was behind me.
I'm not naming that person as they know who they were.

If all of this was a Lie as you are telling me then who do i have proof of the convo between "Master X" and my Ex? i have seen the txt message.

As per our Convo on Sat Tom, i was not blaming you. i asked and you said it never happened. obviously you were kept in the dark about it also.

I just had it out with her, and she has just left. I'll recap her words.
Those DH's are only interested in causing problems, They all knew you F***ed "Miss X" and they never told me, To think that Mr X confided to me about his Ex, what a load of Crap. They can go to hell.

So i think that about says it all with the Txting part....

Now back to Driving.....
I'm alive still to this day as i dont drive like a clown, The only times i have driven behond my own capabilities was when i Rallied, And that ended up in a interesting situation.
Yes we all may drive fast in the bush, but how many of you have seen me "Roll my Rangie" "Hit Tree's with my Bull bar" or "Launch my 4wd over a hump and nearly hit a tree" Never..... i am about 15 years older than you with about 20 years more driving experiance. Yes ive had my share of accidents. Rallying showed me many ways to loose a car and regain control. Growing up in the Bush allowed me to drive at the age of 10yo i have nudged, hit and bumped many a tree in my early day, but i know the capabilty of my 4wd.
I drive a 2 tonne Alloy Missile. If i was to drive it like a sedan down the great ocean rd i would not get to Apollo bay. The Armco or worse the Ocean would win. 4wd owners do think they are safer than Sedan drivers as they have more metal around them. Rubbish. I worked for many years as a TA in a Panel shop, ive seen many cars from corolla's to Range Rovers hit things and be hit. Crumple zones are there to save you, not the car... Full chassis dont offer very good Crumple zones.
About 7 years back i was in a rally and a Ford Exploder hit a Tree at about 130kmh, the Jerry on the rear door burst the doors in and went thru the cargo barrier and smashed the drivers shoulder. When i say smashed i mean smashed.. not broken. The nav survived with only minor injurys as the cage saved them both.
If i did it in my 4wd or many of you in yours i doubt you would get out alive. There are tales of those who have rolled at 100mph and walked out. Hell ive been in a roll over at 140km in a Escort i was naving in. I got out just fine, but the car was a ball of steel and the cage was stuffed as was my helmet. Dont underestimate the weight and dynamics of your 4wd.....
To prove it. Get your mate with his stock 80 series and your modded 80 series. Got for a drive to Lake mountain Via reefton and see who gets there 1st. He will as his car has been set up in the factory to the best handleing best compramise situation. When you lift your car 50mm you increase the center of gravity and the expedential increase is behond what you woulkd think. I know i had a 50mm Lifted Disco and Defender. Having a Stock height Defender makes it far more nice to drive.
Thats my rant for the night.

Steve, let it go. Some just dont get the big picture. Unfortunately alot of
4wders are no different to the '******* in their 'riceburners'. Huge egos & obsession with speed that surposedly proves they are 'men'. Fact is any dickhead can drive a vehicle fast, especially in a straight line, but when **** hits the fan, they have no idea what to do then.

What dissapoints me is that a few who have commented on your stupid behaviour, yes I've seen it a couple of times, have done so themselves on numerous occasions, so they shouldnt go pointing the finger. Mentality of many is to get from A to B as fast as possible, breaking/damaging your vehicle is 'cool', getting stuck in bog holes means you have 'balls' & last but not least, rolling your vehicle is proof that you are a 'legend in your own bathwater'.

So again Steve, let it go.

ok well i was the person driving the 80 who was "speeding" as u said there was a car sitting on 95 in front of u, the first car was a V8 hungie not my dads car so she went around as she could with the easy the car had, then every one else went around and next was me, i pulled out only to see another car comming so i backed off and pulled in behind as some one said over the radio hay duck have a look at the driving of the POS fender, so then im like who do ya recon it is and i here clarkie, so not being able so see ya face (thank god for that) i gave my phone to my mate who messaged michelle asking if she knew ya new number plates coss i think it might be you, so my mate gets a reply saying she didnt know, so then came a gap in the trafic and i drive past both the cars and sure enough it was clarkie, so then my mate gets back on the phone and messages michelle to let her know that it was you, then i was sitting on about 110 in a 100 zone to catch up to the rest of the pack, i look in my review mirror only to see you speeding and almost keeping up with me, so you must have been sitting on 105 so you were speeding to, then my mate gets a reply saying were is he going and is there anyone else in the car, so with all the ****s and giggles going on in the car my mate messages back were we saw you and that there was a 14 year old hooker sitting up front with you.

now i dont know what you have been doing to make michelle beleive me that you actuly had a 14 year old hooker in your car but what ever you have been up to it must be pritty bad.

now thats my view and yes i was speeding but i wouldnt have done it if i thought it was going to be unsafe

What a treat. Thank's Clarkie. If'n you want to start again, coz I don't mind a bit of Duck hunting, TemporaryForwarding.com, has a free service. It comes with an email address generator, usually used for those sites that want to bombard you with junk mail, just because you downloaded an obscure hardware driver or some such. But in this case it could be used for more fun. Pity I've just got back in, and logged on. So I missed a lot of the jocularity.

Big tah very nicely to Bradtot, for having the foresight to save some of it for posterity. That is a nice photo of the Cessna Skylane dash, and yes mate, the ailerons have been set to spoil lift, at least on one side. Just never seen a clublock on a Cessna before. They usually have a factory fitted locking pin system, installed in the control yoke dash shroud. Well an over sized hairpin actually. And I learned to fly in the Cessna Aerobat, smaller than the Skylane, but big kahunas needed, big power plant.

Good to see all are still having fun with owners of less sensible vehicles. I once heard some female journalist retort that, Her Majesty wore sensible shoes. And I know she drives a Series Landy at home on the farm at Balmoral Castle. Sensible shoes, sensible cars. I like it.

Shorty.
