Hi All
We have been having some starting problems with the Disco the cars been parked at the local hall on a slight uphill angle and it takes a fair bit of turning over to start when it does it blows a heap of black smoke out the exhaust. It has happened a few times now always at the same location and when the wife is driving it. Any ideas everyone.

Is it possible this is the disco Amcal immobiliser problem?

Does she hit the key or wait til the glowplug light goes out? They normally start easily enough without, but might be worth trying.

Is the fuel low in the tank? Can you hear the fuel pump whining/changing pitch?
Mine is hard to start when I've got less than 10L in the tank and it's parked facing uphill.

As suggested above :
There's a thread on the d2au.com forums about problems with immobilizers and local bar-code scanners. Might be worth having a look there for ideas.

I wouldn't have believed this if I hadn't seen it myself. A friend of mine had his brother over with his disco. Thing would not start at the top of the driveway. Push it to the end of the driveway and no worries. :D :D

Hi All
We live in a small coastal village and I don't think there is a barcode scanner within 30 klm of here the place were she is parking is in the car park of the local community hall near the front entrance the only electronic device that i can see is the outside remote entry light she will park a little further away to see what happens this is the only place this has happened to us so far.

Sort of related, might be worth a check. Turn the ignition on, pump the pedal 5 times and you wil hear the fuel pump whirring away. Wait one minut with the ignition ON. Try to start it. If a Td5 doesn't start on the first go round, there's something wrong. Look underneath now.....any fuel on the ground? Mine had a split high pressure line 2 weeks ago...... in a disco that means major labour to pull out the interior of the cargo area so you can get to the inspection plate which then lets you replace a $10 part
The good news..... my economy is now back to normal so it has been leaking for a while I'm guessing.

Maybe it's the Feng Shuei. When you park your Disco, do you align it with the cosmos?

could be lots of things, Start with the fuel level in the tank...
As the pump begins to fail a lower fuel level makes it harder for it to do its job.
ditto if it only does it when its first started, As the fuel heats up it expands and pressurises the tank.
Lots of other potential faults after that from
Bad earth to a bit of oil in the harness..
perhaps its just lucas reincarnated...
