G'day

Checking the oil today i noticed a pipe that was loose and i have no idea what it is, does, or goes to.

Its located on the drivers side and runs along the trans tunnel and up the firewall. The pipe was tucked in behing the exhaust heat shield.

the plug (white one) and brackets almost certinally look like an abs connector! follow the wiring and see if it goes to the wheel hub.

cheers phil

Hmmm... the plot thickens....

Looking on the otherside (passenger) theres an identical connector which sure enough runs down to the brake caliper somewhere

Following the wire from the drivers side it goes straight past the connector and drops through the firewall next to the main wiring loom.

the whilte plug is definitely from the ABS System. The sensor from the front wheel would plug into it. Must be part of the standard wire loom.

The other pipe - no idea.

Would someone with a D2 care to pop their bonnet and have a look for me?

G'day,
The black connector looks like a vapour control line. Is there supposed to be an air in filter or something on there,, trace it back and see if it goes to the evap cannister or the fuel filler neck ? I have the TD5 so cant have a look myself

Thats weird that the ABS is disconnected and no "Three Amigoes"

Grumpy
the other leads are definately abs sensor connectors,
as duff says why no 3 amigo's
not knowing how long you have had it, i would guess, the fault is a major repair and everything has been disconnected for a sale, the bulbs may be out of the indicators in the dashboard, to really hide it.
what else has been disconnected?

maybe a big fault hidden, for your sake I hope not.

the black plug looks like the fuel line does it still have the fuel cooler and the other looks like the abs sensor wire, maybe they have been replaced with the new sensors that do away with the plug, seems strange that there is no 3 amigoes hopefully no one has done a dodgy repair but it is something that would be hard to bypass.

The white one is deff the abs sensor, just had a look at mine.

The black pipe / connector is something to do with the vac lines and goes to a small cylindrical thing on the passenger side, next to the rocker cover,

I'll get some pics and post them.

Ladas that black thing on the left hand side is the Purge control valve. I believe,,, on the right side somewhere, there should be an air filter there to fiter air being drawn into the same system.

Just checked through Rave, and it is to do with the emmission control (the black one - not the white) the pipe goes through to the purge valve, from the EVAP canister (or so it seems)

Okay.............yes I see .........on the drivers side it goes to just a snorkel/air intake

Only NAS has a filter and/or a CVS unit.

The tube is/should be the evap canister breather tube.

I'll post the page from RAVE ............so there should be little on no panic on the black one.

...however the white (abs) one :(

hopefully the black one is this

Dug round a bit more to confirm.

Yes its the breather for the canister, mine is exactly the same

The other pipe I showed - with exactly the same connector - is the pure side, this is the breather side.

Bloody odd how it just terminates in that connector, but then again for the NAS models they connect a filter to it, so I guess they use the same pipe.

Thanks for helping out withe what turned out to be a wild goose chase.

It seems just plain wrong to have a loose open pipe sitting in the engine bay!

As for the ABS sensor connector, i chased the wire which enters through the firewall and runs under the dash to centre console which is where i gave up hunting any further for it in the dark tonight.

TC light comes on and you can here it working so it might have been a mod/repair at some stage? To much effort has been done with the wiring to be a dodgy...

You may find it easier to trace the ABS sensor cable from the wheel end, and see what route that takes.

The picture below shows where mine goes from the wheel arch into the engine bay - just after that it connects up to your little white connector.

Yep thats what i did, i followed it up through the wheel arch where it runs straight past the white connector, through the firewall and runs along under the dash

Then in that case I would think that there was a modification done before, and left the original plug obsolete.

As you say it is working, so I would guess the mod was done well, dunno for what reason though ????
