Havign now started to add the toys to the Defender, I thought I'd better start worrying about someone pinching it!

My current thinking is an immobiliser that is as mechanical as possible, and one I can buy and fit myself, so I know exactly what circuits I've cut where (Not that there's going to be too much choice on a mechanical diesel!) incase I have to patch it out.

What are good options, which are known to stand up to being bumped around?

Cool idea - but you're right, not cheap. :o

Mind you, with the lack of electronics on my 300, this would be harder to get round.

I used to work for a franner crane service mob a few years ago who used to sell a very similar valve it was used to lock out the hydraulic pilot control circuit on bobcats and excavators suprising how many of those get stolen in sydney.

they were in silverwater but last time I was there they were no longer there they may have moved but you should be able to get something in australia, maybe try a hydraulic valve supplier

considered a simple battery switch?
there must be a relay capable of handling a few hundred amps that could be made switchable using a proximity sensor :)

How about a rotweiler? Double as home security too

I have just put in a Rhino alarm/immobilliser and central locking. Not that hard.

another tip for those who fit the after market alarms, do not use the warning stickers that come with the alarms, use the universal type stickers that jaycar/dick smith use same goes for the home alarms as well that way they cannot tell what brand you have in the car/home

$100 should get you a good approved remote imobiliser.P38arover(Ron) has just put one on a Disco diesel to be registered in WA.
You would use it to interupt the starter solenoid, diesel cut-off solenoid and electric fuel pump(if fitted).
Make sure you are only fitting into the trigger wires to the relays of these items, not the power supplies.
Im sure Ron will let you know how he did the Disco and what kit he used.
