View Full Version : New Permit System for StocKton Beach

Permit fees for driving on Stockton Beach are to be reintroduced from May 1st.
$10 for 3 day permit
$30 for 1 year permit
I have heard:
If the fees don't cover NPWS costs, then they intend to raise the difference from fines!
If a club will have 20 or more participants, they will be required to submit an intended route prior to use and complete consent forms, 30 days prior to entry.
Vehicles must stay clear of any shell deposits or historical sites.

Their costs?? Paying another drop kick to sit in an office and look at ways to restrict access and when he buggers up gets a huge bonus golden handshake. Taxes are already supposed to pay for Rangers and ifrastructure. Just another way to rip off the public and restrict access. Allright for those who can afford it, not for those who can not. I reckon tell em to go jump, public access to our country.
Remember they do not own it.

If you cannot afford $30 for a yearly permit, how could you afford to go for a play on the beach anyhow? You can't buy much fuel for $30 nowadays

Not the point. This is why we pay taxes. Permits are an additional tax.
$30 may not be much to you or me but some people do struggle and can mean the difference between a day out or staying home. I have already paid for the privelege of park access in my taxes and I do pay high taxes, why should you pay again? Read the constitution regarding taxation.
Just another way of the government ripping us off, like tollways. I would much rather see that money go to my kids or something else useful.

Fines on the beach?? I dont think i have ever been checked for my permit in the past i guess they intend on starting to check,, as for the club thing of 20 plus,, i guess it would be hard for them to police that part of things especialy with groups like AULRO - we are just 20+ friends who happened to be on the beach at the same time ;)

I am really starting to hate this sh*t. The way things are going it'll cost me and the missus a hundred grand to see Australia - and that's just for the bloody permits!
I can see that a second set of plates and a false name are going to come in very handy.

G'day All, I don't want to sound like a wet blanket, but if your smart don't come to NSW with a set of dodgy plates, they have a gadget that ID's plates in less than .5 of a second, trapped lotsa idiots with unregistered cars etc, anyway cheers Dennis:wasntme:

Actually I think they have about three of them - but I am sure there are more to come! Probably be a while before they appear on any beach though - pickings too good on the highways.
On that subject - following the introduction of the gadget a few months ago, they published that there are about 10% of drivers on the road unlicenced. In a separate release they also published about the same time that unlicenced drivers are involved in about 10% of accidents and deaths (very dangerous!). Anyone else spot the fact that these figures do not support unlicenced drivers as being any more dangerous than average?

We should do some research. A friend a while back consulted a constitutional lawyer about being charged to enter national parks, Uluru etc and was informed that legally they can not charge you to enter a park. It is regarded as a donation. I know a few years ago when we were at Uluru the tickets actually had thankyou for your donation written in small lettering on the back. May still have the ticket as the wife liked the design, will look when I get home.
DO NOT take this for gospel, it may and probablly is not right. Governments cahnge legislation all the time to shaft us.
It seems the real agenda of permit charges is to keep us out not help the parks.
Just look at the O/S tourists that just walk past collection boxes. We live here and pay taxes, why should we pay again. Lets charge tourists a reasonable fee that do not contribute to this countries infrastructure, not an obscene fee just a modest one like they do in the US.
Yes I am passionate about this issue as I want my kids to be able to go where they want to in this country, not be dictated to by government and minority groups that have no right to do this.
Off the soap box.

I have a question about the permit, does the ALL PARKS PASS cover Stockton or is it a seperate access payment and are dogs still allowed on Stockton.

Ok ive got sum more info on beach access coming in the mail and i will post a map of proposed areas when it arrives as themap on npws web page is incorect the permits will be 3o for the year of 15 if your veh is pension redgoed and theres going to be alot more policeing of the permits like bush 65 said they are going to make up any shortfall in funds by fineing people doingthe wrong thing ...
As for dogs on the beach there allowed but have to be on a leash and the 40kph speed limit also stays the same
Cheers

Least you can go and play on the beach still.
Coorr wineing more than us pomms.:D :D
I come from a country that is trying to stop people owning 4x4's never mind charging you to drive on the beach (charging more tax for them and trying to ban them form the towns). They are going to make it illegal for off roaders in the UK to even rent a bit of land off a farmer on a sunday and play around in it. After all at the moment that is really the only place you can off road at the moment.
Because the Green lanes are not P/C to go along now and everone moans of you do. Plus the goverment is closing then down very very fast.
They would have got this rule through quicker if it was found that because of the wording it would have made the National RAC rally illegal. And as the goverment makes alot of money out of that they decided to back off that one, untill they cahnge the wording
So think yourselves lucky that you can still go to these places and drive them. :D
BTW i like the idea of W/A. When we were there we bought a state National park pass. This was about $50 and covered all the parks and mean't you did not have to pay the $10 entery fee each time. Great for us as we were driving around the whole of W/A

G'day All, I can draw similar issues along the lines with CraigE but with a different issue, as some of you may be aware I have a fleet (6) of ex military Land Rovers and 3 trailers, now whenever I get invited to a show I ask what are the entry fees, they (organisers) want me to pay anything from $5.00 to $20.00 entry per vehicle, now wait for it, the public get in for nothing:o , now I would have thought that we (the vehicle restorers) were the attraction with our vehicles so charge the public entry, no they don't see it that way, so as a result I don't go to shows anymore anyway it still will be interesting to see what develops on 17 mile beach and how much longer we are able to access it before it is closed down because the new owners say so anyway cheers Dennis:wasntme:

Can you lot please keep this to yourselves, if our local govt mob find out about this, Ballina SC will try the same trick on our 'driveable' beaches:D ;)

I just got the word straight from the horses mouth:D
Yes it's a seperate permit
Yes dogs are allowed (Recreation area not a National Park)
It is looked after by NPWS now on behalf of the local traditional owners.
You'd be suprised how many Landie owners work for NPWS;)

it's going to be hard to stay away from shell deposits, the whole f---ing beach is a shell deposit. what about the historical significance of the piles of broken beer bottles?

and another thing- there is so much junk washed up on that beach, and no matter how many clean ups we have there, there will always be crap being washed up from passing ships.
i hope the "traditional owners" don't claim that this stretch of sand has any cultural significance. only the bleeding heart politicians in our state goverment would be spineless enough to cave in to such a high profile minority in the name of getting more votes for an upcoming election.
makes you wonder what sort of swing they managed in that electorate and whether it was attributed to this!
