I just went and eyeballed Hot Thing.

Not bad, needs some work. check out the other thread ( http://www.aulro.com/afvb/showthread.php?p=521750#post521750 ) for my rough n reddy report on it.

but now for the point of this thread. (and im throwing this mainly to other series owners)

Ignoring

making sure its well serviced (Im on that)
good 4x4 rubber (ive got a lead on some decent enough rubber)
basic wheel changing gear (jack/wheel brace)
basic de-ditching tools (shovel, axe, pick+ handle)

Lets say youve got $500 to spend to get a SWB SIII ready for offroad use,
What would you get?

dont forget to include; where you might get it, would you use it second hand, what would you pay for it and why you'd include it.

Yes he already has the beer and esky covered.

Well, supposing we can't afford PTO Winches, let's chuck a couple of block and tackle set ups in the box. Maybe a hundred metres, in 3 or 4 various lengths, of 3 ton SWL rope, some strops.

The Esky is a genuine Malley's Steel Esky, complete with bottle opener we presume? When only the toughest can take it, etc, etc.

A selection of shackles, hooks and so on for rigging recovery gear.

I did mention the Esky should be strong? Oh, yes so I did.

Yep, that's about it. More than enough to get into strife, not quite enough to get back out again alone. Does that sound normal?:p

Shorty.

Bucket seats (cheap ones, fit yourself) ~$150
Defender Mirrors ??? My last set were about $75 - Could go hunting around at a normal wreckers for something off a 2wd car to screw onto the window frames
UHF & Aerial (2nd hand GME off ebay) ~$225
Military shackles for a bit of extra lift $50

Is recovery Gear included?

BUT if you could find a 24 spline rear diff or Sals series axle I would do that about everything but seats - but I hate the original bench seats.
