The saga continues, due to my own stupidity.
While ringing Vicroads to book a time to get the Defender registered I noticed a discrepancy between the engine number on the NSW rego papers and the engine number on the RWC, the RWC is right and the rego papers are our a country mile.
I did not check the engine number on pick up

How do I get more info on the engine, like is it stolen:angry: ???

Vicroads should be able to tell you with the VIN number

Any dealer should be able to advise the original engine no. on supply of the VIN

Had the same hassle when I bought mine. Engine number didn't match. Took it back to the inspector and he identified the correct number for me. Turned out it was his mistake anyway. Good luck

Just ask Vic roads.
I had the same problem years ago wit a Mini I had bought. All I had to do was sign a stat dec declaring that the engine was in it when I bought it.

Dont know what would happen if the engine is from a stolen vehicle.
Good luck.

I will be facing Vic roads with my Defender in the next week or so & you always have to expect some drama.

REVS website will tell you if there is a problem with the new engine number

http://www.revs.nsw.gov.au/

After that, if you were doing the same thing in NSW, I'd suggest doing a blue slip inspection ( Vehicle ID confirmation) and new vehicle registration rather than a transfer from another state. Presumably VR has the same thing - go speak to the RWC people, they'll know.

Just check to make sure the "supposed" engine number, is not the chassis number, or some other number stamped on the engine. If that's all it is, you could just point out that someone must have written the wrong number down.

You could (or rather you should have before you bought it) get a Vcheck, which would give the original details of the vehicle.

You can do it right now online and get the results instantly.
NSW can only get upto a Vcheck plus.

Had the same problem when I bought mine, engine no. didn't match paperwork. So much for Altos pre-purchase fee. They blamed PAG.

Wasn't an issue for me until getting an engineering certificate. The soluition was PAG advised the RTA of a batch of incorrect numbers. I got the feeling it happens more than ocassionally.

So long as the roadworthy has the engine number thats in the car, just waddle down to Vicroads and get the thing registered, they'll just change the number accordingly;)
