View Full Version : Disco 3 SE - Stupid question(s)

Hi,

Just picked a new Disco 3 SE. Some stupid questions, but here goes:

The owner's handbook appears to cover the whole range, not just the SE. How do you tell what's in the SE and what's not? The brochure and website don't help.

ie:

Side mirrors - P113 talks about folding the mirrors. I've got electric mirrors but they don't seem to fold electrically.

Trip computer - I can only get the basic functions of range, av fuel, av speed and outside temp. P115 talks about an over speed alarm but I can't see it.

Trip computer again - P116 talks about personalised settings which I can't access. The second paragraph mentions the "I" button (as opposed to the "i" button) but I'm buggered if I can get it to work.

...or are these HSE features?

Cheers,

Mark

That much PC power in them you should be able to hook a chat line with it:D:D:D

Mirrors.... The toggle switch that selects L or R - If you push it down, it'll fold the mirrors.

The "i" button is on the end of your indicator stalk. Keep pressing it until the display on the dash says "Settings". Once on settings, look at the display and it'll indicate that you need to press one of the controls on the steering wheel to get in (Fast forward / scan forwards IIRC), press the switch and you'll be into the additional settings. Once in, you can cycle through the options by pressing the "i" button again.

This is where the personal settings are and it's also where you'll find the overspeed alarm.

Thanks but I tried that with no luck. The mirrors are no biggy, just an example. But the settings is a pain. If I follow the instructions in the book:

Key in the ignition
Display blank
Press the i button for <3 seconds and nothing happens.

Does your car have the audio controls on the steering wheel? You have to have those to access the menus and adjust the settings. I know they are standard on HSE but not on SE.

I feel your pain - not - says I green with envy noting that I can only dream about having problems working my way through a D3 handbook.

As I said - I can feel your pain as I am having trouble working through the handbook of my new mobile phone - having similar issues :)

Congratulations!

Firstly, the folding mirrors are not available for Aust spec cars. Annoying, i know, but LR in their infinite wisdom decided to leave them off our cars.

If you haven't got Hi-Ice or Premium ICE, you can't access the all the trip meter functions. However, you can get the dealer to set your preferences (ie mpg, l/100km or km/l) via the testbook.

The "i" button is on the left hand stalk. if it doesn't change things, then ask the dealer at the next service.

Unfortunately the handbook is generic and there are things in there that not all vehicles get. They didn't specify se, HSE etc in the book because one country's HSE is another country's SE.

Any other queries, post awayand we'll be happy to answer them!.

Welcome to the world of Permagrin!:D

For the life of me, I don’t know why, in this day and age of info technology and after spending so much time and money developing such an advanced vehicle, why are the many new features of this vehicle kept so secret.

A simple inclusion of a DVD would resolve this owner information requirement.

I learnt more about my RR from a dealer made video, made in the USA than I could sort out from the owner’s manual.

Just my 2c worth.

Thanks All.

A phone call to the salesman has enlightened me (and him)!

No, folding mirrors is not an Australian option.

Personalised settings? We'll it seems you have to have the steering wheel mounted audio controls option fitted for this to work because you use these controls to navigate through the menu. I did get this as a freebie on the car when they were trying to sweeten the deal but they (mistakenly?) neglected to reprogram (and that's all it is) the computer to give me access. Apparently they'll fix this next week if I drop in for 5 minutes.

I shouldn't be so cynical but I doubt they ever intended to give it to me but now can't admit it!

There's a thought for Disco owners. The manual is so vague you could take the line that it implies certain things are standard and wangle a better deal!

Cheers,

Mark

Ahhh... Different options for Oz.

It's like the way you guys get the V6 petrol but we don't.

Morcha,

If you have the radio controls on the steering wheel then you can go to the "settings menu" but if you don't then I don't see how they can allow you to program them yourself. Maybe what they mean is that they will program them for you.

You can choose the following options in the "Setting Menu":

Auto door locking - on or off
Overspeed warning - set it to a kph that you want the chime to occur at (eg. 115kph, the chime occurs then will stop annoying you after a short time)
Headlights off delay - 30, 60, 120, 240 sec
Dipping mirrors - on or off
Lazy entry - on or off
km or miles (not that miles is too useful to you)

Some of these might not be in a SE spec but you can only ask.

Nice try, Mark, but you read the manual post-contract. Therefore anything in it is not binding on either party!

Plus it contains disclaimers!

Jamo, I do a lot of contractual stuff (construction) and the rule is, if its ambiguous then you can interpret it anyway you like, its up to the other party to come up with a plausible answer, but I'm relying on their customer service ethic.

And Chris, as you say, you can only ask. Don't ask, don't get!

They rang today to say they want the car back for a day while they reprogram it and lend me something to drive. I asked for a turbo RRS but we'll see!

The sales guy sounded quite sheepish so I think they forgot to check that it work when adding the audio controls.

Mind you, who's to say that "he" from xyz dealership (and there's only 2 in Brisy and they're both Austral) is following this thread anyway!

Cheers.

Ha ha, construction is a bit different (I have recently had a builder try something on me - poor fool!)

Good luck! It's always the party who wishes to gain who has to justify why!

Good luck with your D3. You'll have a lot of pleasurable motoring. Any questions at all, don't hesitate to ask.

No wonder I'm a cynical bugger!

After having the car for 24 hours the dealer tells me that LR have changed the way that these functions work. In previous cars (<= 2006) all they (the dealer Service Dept) had to do was enable settings in the trip computer and away you go. They're telling me that they tried that and it didn't work. LR have told them that in the 2007 model its a hardware change.

They're now waiting on LR to advise whether they'll give me the functionality as described in the book. I did point out that there's no qualifier in the book like "available on some models" or some such.

This is definitely something that buyers of new Disco 3's need to sort out prior to signing up. I wonder, if I paid 82k for the diesel instead of 64k drive away for the petrol whether it'd work? Cynical again!

Mind you, this is a nothing issue for me, I love the Disco 3!

Cheers,

Mark

Dude, read Page 2 in the Discovery 3 Owner's Handbook.

The specification of each vehicle will vary according to territorial requirements and also from model to model within the vehicle range. Some of the information published in this handbook, therefore, may not apply to your vehicle.

I sorted this out by buying an HSE and optioning it up. If you wanted the features, then you should have paid for them like the rest of us!

Jamo, page 2 noted. But remember this post started as me thinking I've lost what few brain cells I have left. ie "Disco 3 SE - Stupid question(s)". Problem is, I love my gadgets!

As for the HSE, I already spent about 10k more than I could afford fulfilling this dream (read mid life crisis).

Cheers.

Well you won't be disappointed!:D There's enough gadgets to learn on the D3 anyway, and plenty more you can add later!

Back in April I picked up my shiny D3 but was disappointed to find that a lot of the trip computer functionality that I assumed (from the book and test drives) was standard in an SE was not there.

Well bugger me if they didn't ring today to say they'd got the kit and will fit it when the car's being serviced in a couple of weeks.:D

Well bugger me if they didn't ring today to say that yes, the service has been done and yes they fixed the blowing fuse on the fog light............................................. .................................................. ...and no, they stuffed up with the trip module. It won't work because I've got the wrong audio controls on the steering wheel, but if I'd like to fork out some dosh  for the top end audio controls it'll work.

I'm disappointed :( but not surprised :(:(:(
