Has anyone removed their std roof rails on a D1?

I have a small problem (about 10mm) with the new house:(

dependant upon fuel load and passengers etc the rails just touch the garage front panel or touch a little bit more and leave some nice scrape marks on the rails, but I dont want them to catch on the panel and crack it:o

so if I remove the rails I will have about 20-25mm clearance:cool:

how is it possible to remove them without disassembling the whole interior:mad:

Previoys member here had same problem as it interfered with a roofrack he bought.................so out came the Cutting wheel, rather than take out the head-lining. Personally, i'd look at the latter ....especially if the lining is a little saggy. Dad did his liner about 12-18 months ago, got an excellent job done for $330 Cash.

I put in a set of rails on my disco as it didn't come with roof rails when I bought it new - it wasn't a big deal and the headlining does not have to come out - if you are careful it it can be prised back enough in the relevant areas to get the tools in to undo the nuts that hold the rails on. If I remember correctly the plastic trim on the door pillers and around the alpine windows needs to come off but again that was not a major issue.

Have you given much thought about how you will cover the four holes in the roof?
