Hi all, i saw and add on ebay last night for a fender CV for models up to 98, would these fit in the disco? They were only $65 each. Is this just cheap crap or it this what they are worth, i thought they were dearer than that. Matt

Yes they will, but the pre 99 defenders had no ABS sensor ring on the CV, so if your D1 has ABS then they will not suit.

I have 110 County cv's in my 98 disco I.

Needed:

New inner axles (half shafts) with 24 spline at diff end and 23 spline at cv end. Original axles step down to a fine spline at the cv end.

New drive flanges for the stub shaft on the cv. The cv stub shaft protrudes further through the spindle than the original cv (in their wisdom, rover made the spindle shorter, with less space between the wheel bearings).

New bronze bushes, to replace the needle roller bearing inside the spindle, for the cv stub shaft to run in.

The genuine county cv's are reputed to have superior strength of the stub shaft, than the cheaper replacements.

All together, this makes for a great improvement in strength over the originals which are the weakest axle/cv combination that rover have used (not considering the freelander).

Here they are guys, they have been re-listed.

Mine doesnt have ABS so i am right.

Thanks Bush65, i will most likely go this way eventually but was just looking for spares to keep me going for now.

Has anyone heard of this mob or had anything to do with them? Are these CV joints cheap?

I just looked them up in the Four Wheel Drives parts catalogue and they have them listed at $500, well $495 but when you are spending that much who cares about $5?

It wouldn't be a pretty site if one siezed at highway speeds. Good luck with them personally I'd be keeping the old ones in the car just in case.

the old ones will be staying in the car, these are for spares, but i cant see them seizing, they are from a company with standards, and come with warranty so they cant be total crap.

Here are the certificates that they achieved .
They have proof of quality so i cant see a problem with them, they wouldnt supply a 12 month warranty if they were crap. I think for the price they are worth a look, even if i keep them as spares and save the cash for some maxidrive or ashcroft beefy ones. Matt

at a guess they'd be fine for just driving around, hence the twelve month warranty.
It's when you have your muddies aired right down and you are clawing your way up a rock step with a bit too much right foot and a bit of lock on and.............

Yeah, i thought the same, hence the only being a spare. If need be they will get tested off road, but for $65 they are at least as good as any second hand one, and perfect for spares to keep in the car incase one lets go.

Who knows they could be really good, we dont know yet, the cheap compressor i bought has lasted over 2yrs and is still going strong, not all cheap stuff is crap, just most. I will report back on them when they arrive. Matt
