Hi Guys
Can anybody tell me how many amps the power window switches pull on the 86 Rangie?????
One of the first jobs Deb wants me to fix is the switches for the rear windows in the front console.
I intend either getting another non rangie set or some sort of toggle switch.
Richard assures me its only the switches(non rangie)in the console that are dicky, not the window motors.

I have found that if you are careful, you can dismantle the switches and clean the contacts. That way you won't have to muck around with non genuine switches.

From memory i think it was around 9amps, i just use early disco ones as they are easy to get, use the whole panel.

I could be wrong, but I thought the windows operated through relays, thus making the power through the switches quite 'nominal'.
.............as I said I may be off track.

If I remember correctly, most power windows are live all the time and the switches go to earth, so the full amps will go through.
Give them a good spray with electronic contact cleaner. Its usually hardened old grease that stops them from working. But beware , there are a number of springs and ball bearings in each one that will take the first opportunity to jump out and hide.
IFAIK old mercs also use the same switches so the wrecker may the place to look.

Yes, they can be disassembled and rebuilt after cleaning. I did it on my '86 RR. However, note PhilipA's words about springs and balls.

Early rangies are full load through the switches.
Later (don't know about early) discos are throught the BCM, so minimal load through the switch, i think the rear doors are full load though. could be wrong

Richard already has a non genuine set in there.
Im thinking the toggle switches that spring to centre when not held,ie up/centre/down.
So if I get 15 or 20 amp toggles I should be OK???
