Hi
In my RRC is there a good reason I should not remove the heater?
Does the air-con use the fan or other electrics with it?
My thinking is :
It's a bugger to lift the floor with it in.
I have never used it in nearly three years.
I could use the space for a proper centre console.
I can't live without the air though.
Opinions, why or why not ?

Would not having a demister make the vehicle unroadworthy under WA regulations?

that was my first thought as well, demister is a requirement in the ADR's

damn it !
I wonder how they would be if you had a heater for demisting but it just didn't work? Just mentioning that I don't even know if mine does work, I have NEVER used the heater.

Aircon works better for demisting, just leave the controls there.:D
Do you have yearly tests in WA?;)

You can buy demisters like on the back window of the car. Don't know of the legallity of having on fitted to the front windscreen

The ADR's require a demisting standard of performance that requires heat. Cars registered in Aust. since 1972 must have a working heater/demister to be considered roadworthy. When Qld. Transport used to do roadside inspections,(they may still do, just I have not seen one for awhile) having a disconnected or inoperative heater/demister attracted a defect notice, and maybe a fine and points. You then had to take the vehicle to a licenced inspection station for a full inspection for a safety certificate which may find a few other costly items

no yerly roadworthy in WA :D
good in some ways bad in others!
I looked in the "book" and apparently the heater unit and air use some common parts so I will have to leave it there.

Steve its not hard to get the heater and aircon out just a little time consuming.
If ya is pulling out the floor than a little more time wont matter will it?
do it properly and it will be ok start shortcutting and u will have more problems.
Been there done that

yer, I suppose you are right but as I said I have never used the heater and it would make a great space for a centre console for the cb's n stuff.
Ah well

How did Defenders ever get ADR compliance then?

I called the licensing place today just to confirm, as brian said, a working heater is needed as a demister. It's classed unroadworthy if it doesn't work

The clever buggers that fitted the air con to classic rangies, opted to have it set up so you could not demist with the airconditioning:mad:
