Gday guys
Anyone done a swap from linkage throttle to cable on SWB 75 SIII
photos would be great. While on the subject of carbies what carbies have people adapted for the 4cyl petrol to make it more responsive with better fuel economy

Thanks

hey bazz

no idea about teh throttle linkage mate. But in regards to the carb, i bought my SIII shorty (2.25 petrol) with a weber carb already installed, it also actually has genie extractors (which i didnt notice for a while!). But i am quite sure those would contribute to flow and I have a friend who has a petrol SIIa 109 and he reckons mine has a bit more poke than usual, i find the carb works well. I think i'm getting pretty good mileage too, havent dont heaps of trips, but was getting about 350 km's to a tank, 400 if lucky i reckon (highway) and probly 250 around town. I think that equates to about 7.7 km/L. I also have a friend with an old 58 S11a shorty, and his is really nice. Its got the original carb (the car has very low miles, was fire fly for Moore Park sydney back in the day) and he found by changing the fuel needles in the carb, to a smaller size, stopped him smoking up the neighbourhood and chewing the juice. So careful tuning can make a big difference to performance and efficiency. He reckons his shorty can spin the wheels in 1st and 2nd on tarmac! Ha, i dont beleive him.
cheers

The holden red motor 6cyl carb(stromberg???) is a straight swap.Get the vairiable mainjet version,be carefull not to run it too lean.
Get rid of all the pollution gear if its still there, better exhaust and extractors will help.

I've used single throut Webers on a number of Landie 4's and while not the cheapest option, I found them to be an excellent carb.

With the Landie 2 1/4 Petrol, it's all the little things you do to them that adds up to making the motor a good little job. So with the Weber, Extractors, 2" exhaust, replace the steel (heavy) fan blade with a 4 bladed plastic one, they go pretty good.

Best regards

G'day All, For the linkage part you could try to get the setup from the S3 diesel and make your own cable using bits from a motor bike cheers Dennis:wasntme:

On a 2A 186, we adapted a throttle cable from HJ Holden. Fitted the carby end with HJ air horn and bits for the cable, and secured the pedal end of the cable through the floor with sealant and a "c" clip". We adapted the accelerator pedal from Holden as well.

Not so hard, took about 3 hours (including the thinking and stubbies), and worked really well.

Mine has a cable as part of the holden conversion. i'll take spme photops, but i'll be replacing it with any luck when I can get a landy engine and linkages to go back in.

Datsun\Nissan 1200\120Y throttle cable(or similar) from the standard right fire wall levers, over the rocker box and make up a bracket, twisted and bent to line the cable pull up with the throttle plate lever. Rig it up at the carby to take a second cable. This can then be hooked up to an after market choke cable to give you a hand throttle for rough ground. The second cable must be free to allow the throttle plate lever to move full range, by sliding over the hand throttle cable. We used this system on the all wheel drive fire tenders I drove in the Navy. Playing with this mod soon myself.

First is a larger capacity alternator, mounted higher up on the engine.

Puddle, splash, lights dimmed, alternator warning light on then back off, lights back up bright but alternator now angry at me.:( Ho hum.

Shorty.

Thanks Guys
Every bit of info is great will print these suggestions out. I do like the idea of putting a side draft webber of the TE Cortina as this will help with the snorkle set up. The motor has got Genie's on it. The rest of the pipe is small and I am in the process of cutting the join where the four pipe meets and sending the gas down a 2" line to the rear.

Thanks again
Bazz

I had a better idea.
Photo is of the entire throttle set up from a Daihatsu Delta, going into my 109" S3.

Must make a hole in the floor plate to allow the main throttle cable, the longer thicker of the two, to go through the floor, along the chassis rail and up over the rocker box. If this worries you, etc, etc, humbug, retort.

But it also gives an incorporated "hand throttle" for rough terrain, using the diesel's fast idle hand control. That is the shorter cable with the canister on the end.
