Hi, Had a weird noise develop in the fender motor, when going down hill on the freeway. It was at about 95kmhafter having your foot off & then putting it back on again, Sounded like a bearing somewhere:( , but everything on the front of the motor has been replaced in the last 12mths. Pulled the belt off & had a real close look when you folded it over there were what looked like a hundred pin holes:eek: , This belt has done about 35000ks Dayco brand. Put the spare on, noise has gone am still surprised a worn belt can make such a horrible noise.

Hi there Sumo, the belt on my disco has been on for 12 years, mind you its only done 150,000 Ks. the first thing you need to ask yourself is what was the last thing you changed on the engine and did it change the alignment of the pulleys. when the belts are rubbing they can scream like a wounded cat.

When I read the RAVE CD for my serpentine belt replacement intervals (1994 3.9 V8) I am pretty sure it was 150000km intervals.

The pulley alignment looks ok checked that, the belt that came off looked like it was failing on the out side layer of material where the tensioner runs.
Cheers Sumo.

I had a similar problem on the Disco 300tdi, it turned out to be the tensioner, didnt look like anything was wrong with it but I think it may have been locking up or spring didnt have enough tension.
I also went through 2 Dayco belts in about 20,000 km's but 1 I put down to the tensioner but the other started to delaminate so I think they arnt quite right for my disco so now I run the OME belt which turns out to be $2 cheaper than a Dayco from my supplier.
Another strange noise that I had sounded like a bearing but ended up being a loose fan.
When everything is right they work great but as soon as 1 thing is slightly wrong they fail very quickly.
Once everything is right

That makes me think now, have had trouble before with belts just being a poofteenth out and not sitting hard down in the pulley.
cheers Sumo.
