Hiya all
fairly new to rovers and this forum (please be gentle)
i would like to hear from anybody who has the mitsubishi td04 upgrade done or anybody who could answer some technical questions about them
just because i love doing things the hard way  i currently have a td04 turbo sitting in my shed just waiting to be bolted on :D just need a manifold, dump pipe  .... glutton for punishment right here!!!

MTQ use the TD04 in their upgrade kit, but I have no idea of what combination of wheels it uses. They also cast their own exhaust manifold and dump pipe.
JustinC has installed a few of the MTQ kits on customer cars. Hopefully he might pop in and answer a bit more.

Hello,
Welcome to the forum, and yes we have installed a few, and yes very happy with the performance. (On one we have fitted one of Jases bigger intercoolers, 300Tdi auto Disco, twin tru tracs, 32's and defender transfer etc the engine did feel smoother under load, and EGT's were slightly down.)
The only problem we encountered during installing the last kit was that the drain from the turbo to the block wasn't going to line up without kinking it, so I had Enzed make me another.
MTQ claim about 20% more gas flow than standard, and while we were unable to Dyno these, with the bigger exhaust and fuelling upgrade done, we also advanced the pump timing slightly, it made a big difference to the auto disco.
As said, MTQ use a different casting/ housings as a bolt on kit for the Tdi, so I would check that the Td04 you have is compatible / matched etc before you go down this path of potential hair loss.

thanks justin
the turbos i have are bare (casings, wheels and thats it) so will be building it from scratch
at this point would like to confirm the turbo wheels are compatible
either visually or serial numbers etc... i have seen some around that are td04-11c.... etc im guessing this means a td04 casing with 11c being the combination of wheels and wastegate actuator
i rang one of MTQ's agents here on friday and found them less than knowledable and even less helpful will try head office on monday

Yup, head office is the go. I bought mine direct for that reason, A Weatherill Park number, I haven't got it on me ATM.

I belive thats the turbo on our dead Trytoo.
This one is different than the previous,it has a large vane then a small vane compared to all the same on the earlier version on the compressor side. And it spooled up heaps better too.
If I decide to wreck the Trytoo, watch for it in the markets.

I definately talked to weatherill pk, I thought that was head office, or maybe it was the closer of QLD and NSW considering I got no help out of Vic.:(
They were quite helpful anyway.

I think you'll find Wetherill Pk are in charge of kit development/manufacture these days (used to be Toowoomba) and corporate head office is Brissy.
Justin, do you find the MTQ kit performs better than just doing the pump adjustments with the standard Garrett ?

spoke to mtq weatherill park today,
they were able to answer most of my questions. ill be able to get the manifold and dump pipe off of them for a reasonable price. tho it will be put on hold for a while, i have rego and insurance coming up..... never a cheap affair, made worse coz im towards the younger end of the scale
JC how many psi boost do you run?
they were a little vague and phone connection wasnt great, think they said no more than 19psi. dont think ill be going anywhere near that. i was thinking slightly lower than standard, 12-13psi. i think i read something like that in another thread....
still going ahead, fun and games :D, reckon if i can get away with less than $1000 all up ill be happy

did they indicate what turbine and compressor wheels ??
I could be very interested............
PM me if it can't be made public. ;)

AH so my dodgeyness is catching on rick?? (dodgeyness..... is that even a word??? )
nah, they couldnt tell me what turbine/compressor etc. they would get them made to order from manufacturer and just pop it in the box
might ask mtq again tomorrow... hopefully get somebody else on phone
i reckon as long as i know the required boost pressure any car performance shop will be able to tell me (i prefer to talk to somebody face to face anywayz).... from what i know so far most cars using these turbos run 8psi standard.... been meaning to go to one to sort out some other stuff enywayz. see if i can get an exhaust manifold and dump pipe any cheaper, mtq's wasnt expensive but cant hurt to shop around, you never know
on the topic of manifolds, cant remember which thread it was mentioned in. it was hinted at that the turbo will bolt straight onto a 200tdi exhaust manifold (i have a 300tdi disco but best mate has a 200tdi defender) anybody know anything about the matter?

yeah, apparently bolts straight onto a 200Tdi exhaust manifold, just remember that you'll need a Disco one, as the Defender one is a high mount with a different inlet manifold as well. The MTQ 300Tdi one uses the genuine Land Rover no1 and 4 stubs, re-machined to fit their new cast 2-3 centre so it bolts up to the OE exhaust and inlet duct.
When I spoke (several times) to MTQ over the years, one bloke reckoned they were only using 12.5 psi, (stock 200Tdi boost) which I found really hard to believe as the stock boost on a 300Tdi is 15.5 psi. When I quizzed him on this he just claimed "more efficient turbo", but he was a bit vague on actual numbers, so I took it with a grain of salt.

maybee i should be working on the fender first, then the disco..... nah, my little experiment, plus my mate lives in albury anyway :p
ill take it a cast manifold is the way to go. cant bling it up with a stainless one :D yeah right......
cheers, plenty of info to go with for now... just need to pay rego and insurance then can start working on this

thought id revive this old thread rather than start a new one
im making slow progress - busy as ever :(
i have another question tho. where in the system would it be best to get coolant from?
at this stage im going with a 200tdi disco manifold. from what ive read it is a bolt on job (both turbo to manifold and manifold to head) please correct me if this is wrong.
before all this goes ahead ill have to get round to putting an egt in (and play with the fuel pump )

I 'think' MTQ just tap into the heater circuit. Either wait for JustinC to happen along or PM him to confirm.

I had one of these fitted to my old 200Tdi Defender by a mob out Wetheral Park way. Don't know all the details re boost settings etc. but it performed much smoother than the Garrett and cut in at about 1300rpm instead of 1800.
To my recollection, no manifold replacement was required.
Quite happy with result.

[QUOTE=Xtreme;589548]cut in at about 1300rpm instead of 1800[QUOTE]
this is what im hoping to achieve. hopefully i wont get rear-ended pulling outta my street (couple o near misses already)
how is the fuel consumption compared to normal?

No noticable change in fuel consumption - just the lower cut in and it pulled slightly better on hills.

Way the thread dig! Over 3 years old! LoL
on my Disco, I have a DTS turbo kit installed, using the mitsu TD04 turbo along with different manifold, which was purchased by the previous owner.
Is there a considerable amount of lag to be overcome with this kit? I should also mention that it is running a 3in (could be 2 1/2 I'll check it later) dump into a full 2 1/2 mandrel system.
I have no other driving experience with these cars, and it seems that I need to use half if not slightly more throttle to get the rig going (its auto too btw) I don't expect it to be a rocketship haha
Also, I struggle to hear the turbo from inside the rig, are you meant to be able to hear it spool up? I'm going to set up a boost guage etc in the near future (purely for the fully sick factor (j/ks!)) ... any ideas what the TD04 kits run boost wise?
It holds up pretty well without need for much more acceleration going up over the gateway bridge, at 80km/h it chugs on over with ease.
The kit claims a gain of 17 killawasps from 84 to 101kW with an increase torque from 265NM to 335NM

If you reckon it's doughy with a MTQ kit, have a drive of a stock one ;)

LOL! :D
Ive got the feel for it now that I have done a few more km's in it, I would really like to have a drive of a stock rig to feel the difference to satisfy the curiosity, like wise if someone was considering an upgrade and would like to have a drive of mine.

if i find myself in brisvegas ill take you up on that.
mine is stock still, tweaked fuel pump is as far as i got before shelving the project.
maybee my project, like this thread, will be revived
