View Full Version : Rock / Tree Sliders for 300tdi Defender?

G'day all,
Been out this weekend at The Springs 4x4 park with GCLRO, LROC Brisbane, and the Sunshine Coast LROC and had an absolute blast of a time - I've even asked Outlaw if I could join the club as you guys tend to do some trickier terrain then the LROC Brisbane and it would help my skills a bit :)
That, and Bolts is a brilliant trip leader - even if he does drive a discovery ;)
Anyways one I the things I would like on my Defender is Rock sliders. I had tree-sliders made up when I was in the UK (they got made by the same people that made my roll-cage - Protection and Performance (http://www.protectionandperformance.co.uk/) - I just haven't had the $$$ to fit either yet!) and should be able to be welded onto rock sliders when I get some.
The concept was that they would also make a good foot step for those of smaller statue than myself
X-box mentioned I should post on here as possibly D'Ranged could help me in this endeavour?
If it helps I've got a 1994 300tdi Defender 110 Station Wagon....
I'd appreciate your input.
P.S. Thanks for a great weekend guys :D

As soon as Xbox gives me his defender for a couple of days I will have them made. You would have seen them on Bolts and Stikmans Disco's.

I've been digging through my old emails when talking to the roll-cage mob in the U.K. who also made up the tree-sliders for me and their dimensions were based on this email:
###
Regarding the rock-sliders, my friends measured up my Defender and said to tell you that they need to be 1740mm centre to centre...
###
Still trying to find the email to find out exactly were "centre to centre" was measured from :(

Are we talking about the Sill replacement Sliders or the ones at the Gall trim on Countys??

Sill replacement sliders are what I'm after and what (I believe) DRanged has made for the Disco's....

hey grizzly, mate i have some (that i'm sure dranged could make for you) that are 50 x50 box with supports coming back to the outriggers and 40/45mm tube coming out from this as the 'slider'. mate can't tell you how much grief this has saved me!! make sure the slider section comes out well from your door for when you are on side angles and for those rocks that just 'pop' up. and make sure they are jackable. should be able to support alot of weight, but i'm sure dranged wil tell you all this;)

I have most of the design done, and now Josh is bringing his Defender down to my w/shop and I will get them finished asap.

Hmm I'll await the price with interest, as I'm considering getting a set for my ute (which will eventually wear a tub rather than a tray).
Gotta get a new clutch first though.....

Should be around the $750 - $800 GCLRO club price , powder coated and fitted. Can make the tree slider to various dimensions out from the sill to suit all tyre types.:D Will be the same design as my D1 & D2 sliders as per photos. Hi lift jack friendly etc.

As you can see they are a very robust unit.

What if I already have some tree-sliders made up? Can you / would you attach them to the rock sliders if they met up to your standards?

What is the difference between rock sliders and tree sliders?

What is the difference between rock sliders and tree sliders?
My understanding is "rock" slider protect from imapacts underneath the car i.e. impact directly on the underside of the sills and "tree" sliders protect from sideways impacts.....from trees and other objects rising vertically out of the ground or those higher than the sill of the car. My sliders for instance saved me a few weeks ago at Ormeau when I grounded and see sawed the car on a huge rock (rested it on both sills and the cross member - not one of my finer driving moments as it involved a short winch to pull me off the rock, thanks Justin!!) and then the tree parts saved me later in the day when I got a bit close to a tree.......they simply held the tree at bay whilst I deftly negotiated the tight turn;):D
Hope you know what I mean and that is my understanding of how it all works!!
Aye, Mick

If they are not as strong as 40nb steam pipe, no. I know how strong my package is thats all.

Thanks Mick
Essentially the tube bars out the side of the sliders referring back to Justins photos - that also act as a step
Cheers Guy

Fair enough. I expect they will meet with your standards (40nb steam pipe) as they were made by the same people as made my rollcage (and who supplied rollcages to the ambulances in Iraq and various other events).
