I have oziexplorer on my laptop running on a 8" screen - works well and am happy with topos etc when offroad.

However I also like to use it for general driving around on the road where topos are not so useful but the type of maps in Gregories and travel atlases are good.

I have scanned quite a few maps in out of travel atlases and have set them all up but I have noticed the position cursor doesn't always stay on the road. At first I thought it was my dodgy map calibration but after many recalibrations by setting the maps to where I actually am when traveling I have come to the conclusion that the maps themselves are OK for use in the book but the roads etc are not all that accurate as far as lats and longs etc are concerned.

As I am said I am happy with topos and know where to get them but does anyone know where I can get accurate maps covering the road network for use on oziexploer. I have UBD GPS maps for the cities but the software is not very good - calibration is excellant - pity the UBD GPS maps can't be read by oziexplorer.

Oh - price is an issue - anything more than a couple of hundred $$ and I might as well buy a cheap GPS.

Thanks

Have the full set of Melways maps for Melbourne suburbs. They seem to be very accurate

you can use the ubd map cds, export the maps then use the GPS datum markers that appear on them as your calibration points, use as many (up to the 50 supported) as you can for greater accuracy.

Tried that - oziexplorer does not recognise the UBD GPS maps. Also UBD is only covering the main cities, I am after the national road network like you you find in a touring atlas.

Install Map Monkey and Destinator SDK and its maps (downloadable from the 'net ).

Can't assist with the national road network but LPI 'Stateview' covers NSW for around $30 (They are the same maps that are (used to be) in the Penguin NSW Road Atlas
