Freelander, should I just shoot it!

Hi All,

We have an evil little beast that is the freelander and after multiple problems it is currently with a mechanic who has said it needs a new G4 (or g force?) switch???? Apparently it is connected to the ABS and has something to do with the transmission? Does anyone on here know about it or of it?

its a g force sensor or inertia detector. Its a critical part of the ABS in some systems as it tells when the vehicle is in motion, how hard your decellerating and that lets the abs brain work out how its going to do what its got to do.


Ive not had much to do with the freelander but thats generically what its for without getting fully technical.

I cannot answer your question but I had a look through my workshop manual in the brake/ABS section and there is no mention of a G4 or similar switch in the braking system or the ABS or the transmission. The ABS is 4 channel and ABS ECU compares the speed of each wheel to determine if one is rotating at a different speed. Like most modern cars there is a g (iniertia) switch in the fuel system to cut it off after sudden deceleration. Is this the switch?

What model Freelander is it, as my book does not cover the last version of the TD4 (series 3).

Yeah shoot it, only landrover thing about it is the Logo....another failed attempt by Marketing to access the little SUV market, Honda CRV, Tojo RAV's etc..get yourself a Defender and be done with it.....;)

Ask the mech for a part No. and see if he really starts to mumble.
