Well the girlfriend and I thought we would head out for a nice relaxing drive around the Yarra State Forest with the brother in law and sister on Sunday as we were staying out at Warburton over the long weekend. Started off well, down Lyrebird, up Stringybark Tk, onto Oat Patch Track and then down New Turkey Spur Track...and then the fun started.
Partly down New Turkey Spur it turned out to be nice and slippery with no rut to mention. Did alright until we hit a section with a mean left camber with the track heading to the right...tried to steer into it, tried to power into it but just ended up plowing into a tailings runoff along the side of the track. Looks like previous people had done exactly the same thing... Unfortunately I didnt have two snatch blocks so I couldnt winch back...took a while to work ourself out but we managed to do it. I have worked out however that rock sliders are on the menu as I hit a knarly rock once I slid off. The plastic trim actually did a lot to block the damage but I now have a little ding in the door. Apart from the 4x4de ones...are there any other good sliders? Anyone have a good design for home made jobbies that I could copy?
For those wanting a bit of a challenge I would suggest trying to drive up New Turkey Spur track from the east end...lockers and ET's JT's would be a prerequisite I would say. But would be tons of fun...

p.s- should this be in the trips section?!
