I have a 2000 disco and the radio reception has a lot of static when about 50km from the city. How can I improve this reception?

You may want to check that the aerial(s) is/are plugged into the back of the radio. Depending on the model it depends if there are 1 or two aerials

If that is okay, there are amplifiers in the roof lining above the two rearmost side windows. If they check out you may want to have the actual unit checked.

You can buy an external aerial from a Truck accessories store, and mount it like a normal gutter mount CB aerial. There should be a join (with male and female plugs) somewhere near the facia fuses you can use to plug it in.
If you had a commercial mid range VHF aerial, base and cable laying about, you could use it - trimmed to suit - say 100mhz, or 75cm for a quarter wave aerial. Suitable plugs are available at Dick Smith's and Jaycar.
