It does look like a great rig, Im glad they got rid of that stupid plastic cover that really doesnt do anything but make working on it harder.

I wonder what the revised seating positions will be like, I love the fenders but Im just not comfy in them so it would be good if it made it a bit more comfy for the wider bummed ones among us.....Like me.;)

Saw the new defender at Avalon Airshow, looks like a nice rig. Think the 6 speed would be a big improvement over mine.

Anyone know if the new 90" will be coming to Aus - the guy at the airshow said yes, but didn't seem to sure.

I was speaking to a Transit owner recently about the new Defender. He was very enthusiastic about the 2.4 Diesel. He raved about how well it pulled off the mark and effortlessly cruised. He did mention that cruising at 160kph all day on a recent trip to the NT reduced his fuel economy :D.

He did though warn about the transit clutches, they're very expensive & problematic. And I'm guessing the anti-stall clutch on the new Defender will be as problematic. My mechanic / auto elecs dad has a petrol transit, and after some investigating, he was a ble to retrofit an 'old school' clutch when that went.

I think it was originally gonna be a 2.7 cause the UK landy mags said it was gonna be a 2.7 but them they changed it to be a 2.4 after a little more infomation was let out.

Does anyone know if the 07 Defender still has the hand brake on the drive shaft?

Haven't heard any different - no reason to change, and they usually avoid unnecessary changes to the design. It would involve substantial redesign of the rear brakes (OK, adopting brake manufacturer's off the shelf design!) and the linkage, which would tend to be very vulnerable to offroad damage.
It would be such a departure I think we would have heard of it if it were planned.
Only reason I can think of to change would be to reduce manufacturing cost, and the cost of design plus changes in documentation and approvals and parts stocks would probably outweigh the savings.

I agree with you John, I've seen no mention of it so I'd thought I'd ask...

Any of the forum's UK members checked this out??

Also does it have the A-frame on the rear diff or is it now like the D2's (i.e. any significant suspension changes)?

It doesnt look like any part of the suspension has been changed at all and most likely still has the poxy handbrake lever location.

Yes that part of the hand brake hasn't moved I noted in the pictures. You'd think after all these years they'd have finally done something to the lever at least!

Don't mind if they've left the rest intact.

The footrest you mean?? Couldn't drive without my left foot sitting on that!

Good on you Timmo. I agree with you. I wouldn't like to see it moved.
