Try a right click on the pic you want, then you can use it from the clipboard.

If you have a photo editing program you can paste it into the program and edit and save the pic.

If you get an auto run powerpoint in an email it might be harder. Last resort is usually pressing printscreen when the pic appears and that will be in the clipboard. Handy to grab images, although bending copyright a fair bit.

If you have MS PowerPoint, then open the pps from PowerPoint (File-->Open). Without PowerPoint you can capture an image during the slide show using ALT+PrintScrn (nothing obvious happens when you do this). Then exit the slide show and paste into a document or as a new image in an image editing package.

Hope this helps.

if it's an auto-run presentation, changing the filename from *.pps to *.ppt should bring it up as a normal powerpoint - and you can then get them out as per above.

This works on my version (2000), but I don't know about others. Worth a try, I suppose.

Is openoffice compatible with Microsoft programs? The reason I ask is that my dad has openoffice but cannot view powerpoint file attachments in emails.

there is a free powerpoint viewer you can download from the microsoft web site if you need a viewer only...

as fopr openoffice, impress did powerpoint files better than powerpoint, esp if you needed to export to mpg, last time i looked at it.

Not Sure if Open Office supports the newer MS Office 2007 XML based file formats yet. (for Powerpoint - .pptx, .pptm and .ppsx file extensions)

but Inc. is right OO does allow you to do LOTs that MS doesn't..

Just open the file from within Powerpoint and you will have access to the pictures. Equally, if you have a Powerpoint file (*.ppt) you can save it as a Powerpoint Show (*.pps) and then get what you have and looks like an unaccessable file (but it can be accessed)
