Question 1.
Where is the best and cheapest place to buy series parabolic springs. Roughly how much including delivery. Will they work OK with extended shackles and do they come with all new hardware or just the springs themselves.
Question 2.
Also, can you buy a series 1 new chassis x member - the one under the bell housing or do I need to cut one out of another chassis or fabricate one from scratch patterned of my old bashed in one.
Thanks

You could try and fit the x member out of a rangie/stage1/county/defender as they bolt in you could either weld it in or or bolt it so its removable ...
As for the parra springs not sure but ive heard the rocky mountain ones are the pick of the bunch :D:D:D:D

1. Don't know where the cheapest or best would be - but I'd like to know!
I suspect that you would end up with too much lift (exceeding the angle on the front prop shaft) with both extended shackles and parabolics, although this may depend on the parabolics - I would consult with the particular supplier.
2. A quick check does not reveal this cross member for the 2/2a/3 either, but if you can locate one I suspect that the cross member is the same, or at least interchangeable, on the late Series 1 as on the later chassis - there were relatively few changes from Series 1 to Series 2, much less than during Series 1 production. I cannot recall ever having seen chassis sections sold specifically for Series 1.

G'day All, I'm certain the X members for the Series 1 are completley different design to S2/2A, I will attempt to get a pic of a series 1 type if you need to verify it, but I suppose if you are not restoring to authentic/original it wouldn't matter, anyway cheers Dennis:wasntme:

Thanks to everyone for your comments - I think I will fabricate a new x member myself using heavier steel and using the old battered one as a template. I have the drawings and measurements in an old workshop manual that I have.
Anyone have an idea where to buy parabolic springs in Aust or is it cheaper to import from Canada?
Cheers

Ask Lucas, he has a set that he's not sure if he wants to keep or sell.

I think that will probably be what you would end up having to do anyway. Just be careful not to increase the thickness too much as it could cause stress concentrations (and hence cracking) at the join to the main chassis rails, not to mention making welding more difficult.

Garry, I have recently bought my 'Rocky Mountain' parabolics from FWD Motors Ltd. (Telephone: 07-3848-9323); www.fwd-motors.com.au. My contact was a bloke named Mika (really good service). And yes, I believe that it is worth getting the better springs such as Rocy Mountain. I think my kit cost about $1100 and came complete with U bolts, bushes etc. I bought new spring hangers as the military ones are too long for the parabolic conversion without spending a heap of cash to change angles. The Pro-Comp shocks sold with them included new 'longer' check straps for the rear. I am impressed with them. It took just over a week to get them to me in Darwin as well :D:D
Let me know if you need more info.

I am still undecided on the parabolics. If I do decide to off load them I will offer them up here so they go to a fellow AULROvian.;)

Thanks Troy I will give them a call. Normal springs are about $700 so $1100 for parabolics would seem reasonable.
Lucas - I will keep an eye out - are yours for a LWB or SWB as I will only need the lower load capacity set.
cheers

To suit 109, but they are not the real heavy duty, I did not go the heavy duty ones as I had no intention of towing.:)

If you carry a bit of kit in the rear of your SWB - the std LWB rear springs should be fine. SWB are 2 leaf standard whilst 3 leaf are a h/ duty option (if you carry a load) - LWB have 3 leaf std.
I bought the Rocky Mountain 3 leaf rears as the lighter ones wouldn't have been up to it.
