Hi all
I am new to this forum and have a couple of questions about defenders.

I am looking at buying a second hand defender.
Firstly i am quite tall 197cm 6'4" in the old money first question is will i be able to fit behind the wheel? Having not sat in one i don't know. If not can you fit after market seats to make it possible?

Second Question is more of a clarification for me the difference between the 110 and 300 models is that the 110 has the TD5 engine which has EFI where as the 300 is a 4 cilinder without as much electrics? Is this correct or am i way off? Also the 90 is the MWB model correct?

Thank you in advance
Andrew

Defender 110 - designates the wheel base in inches, there's also 90 and 130.

The 300 refers to the 300Tdi engine 4 cylinder 2.5 litre without much in the way of electronics (at least for the Aust market).

The next engine was the Td5 (around 1999 locally) a 5 cylinder 2.5 litre with ecu etc.

The 300 was preceded by the 200Tdi.

I'm sure others will add.

As for getting behind the wheel you shouldn't have a problem and its a simple mod to move the seat back a couple of inches.

Hi all
I am new to this forum and have a couple of questions about defenders. I have asked around on another forum (4wd monthly) but all i seemed to get was people baging land rover, probably by people who wished they owned one.

..............but you can get a 300Tdi in 90, 110 and 130, and you can get the same in a 200tdi, and the same with TD5

Thank you in advance
Andrew

Dunno about the seats - but I understand that a few 'big' chaps are okay, whilst a few others have fitted extended runners, there was a thread on this a few weeks ago.

Re terminology

110, 90, 88 130 etc is the wheelbase in inches.

Some times called 90 = SWB (short wheel base)
130 = LWB (long........)

Never seen a 110 called a MWB though

A tdi 200, 300 is a turbo diesel 4 cylinder, a TD5 is a turbo diesel 5 cylinder

TD = Turbo diesel

TDi = Turbo Diesel injection

So in effect all 'i' models are injected.

You would need to speak/hear to/from a more knowledgeable person to say if it was considered a EFI - I thought that was more akin to petrol models.

I understood the (i) was for intercooled - all diesels are injected ;)

G'day thrower78,
Just keep reading through the threads and you will pick up pretty quick on whats what. Hit the Tech pages for all the real qurks with L/Rs as other outside fourms "think" they know about L/Rs.

Cheers Easo.

P.S. Welcome to the site and we expect pics on the outcoming purchuse.:rulez:

It seems like you just missed on this conversation, have a look at the following thread link :

http://www.aulro.com/afvb/showthread.php't=39169

The 110 has been around since 1984, also known as the County in Aus. for the spec level that was imported. Then they had 3.5 V8s and Land Rover Aus. also put 3.9 Isuzu Diesels in some.

The Defenders got their name when the company took on the name Land Rover, and so had to distinguish the original Land Rover from Range Rovers, Discoveries and later Freelanders.

All Defenders in Australia (excepting some private imports) are Turbo Diesels. Originally the 200Tdi, then the 300Tdi and eventually the TD5. The 300Tdi has more parts interchangable with a Disco, whereas the 200Tdi Discoveries and Defenders were different. The Tdi motors are free of electrickery, the TD5 is electronically controlled, which means that on the upside you can easily get more power by chipping it.

The April edition of Land Rover Owner International (in Newsagents now) does a comparo of Disco Vs Defender, as well as having a brief look at the various Defenders.

Again, I recommend you read the above link.

TDI depending on which marketing manual you read means one of the following

Turbo Direct Injected
Turbo Diesel Intercooled

Toyota Debogging Impliment

IMHO as all diesels are injected and these days 99.9% of them use direct injection as its easier to make the head (read cheaper) TDI stands for the second of the 3 options the 3rd one is only really aplicable to Landrovers.

I'm 6'2" and the drivers seat is raised 22mm (7/8") which works fine for me.

BTW, 130's are actually 127" wheelbase. ;)

I'm 198cm (6'6'') tall and I fit in my 110 with no problems. Would prefer more room, but have driven over 1000km's in a day (seats are not modified).
Cheers Iggy

I'm 6'2" and no twiggy and I'm quite happy in my defender without seat mods. You just have to learn to sit up in a correct position and you'll be fine. Given the small windscreen you'll probably never need the sun visor but that's a good thing.
Blacknight hits the spot again.... Toyota debogging Implement !!!

There is a recent thread about that.

But in my opinion, the 300.
In the defender for sure as you get disc brake rear end, better gearbox and smoother engine....
