Well for those that Missed it - I will say you didn't miss the 0 degree at 3:00am - the rain all day Saturday along with the cold, standing by a fire that was burning while being rained on:eek: - So you were better off at home in front of a heater and out the rain............. BUT.............
You did miss an a good weekend of landrover 4x4 action, great camp fires, good stories, cold beers and a laugh with good people.... and a great roast done in a camp oven.:p;).
The 1st group meet at 7:00am loaded up with coffee and left by 7:15am which must be a first for the club. We all had a nice easy drive down to Lismore were we pulled into the coffee club for Brekky and some last minute shopping for Camo and Stevo whom forgot pillows:wasntme:. Ohh and a couple of text messages to MickG (wish he was with us instead of in front of his desk;))We then headed of to Casino for a fuel top up (V8's) and onto Rover Park.
Pulled into Rover at 12:15pm to meet up with Fat50 where we headed down to the camp and signed in, picked up the keys and settled into the Bunk house. The camp fire was started so we would come back to some hot coals and we all had lunch and then headed out on a drive.
1st call was down to the play area to see our hard work from a year ago still there and being used, after we had a go at going through - (with only two hang ups on the logs) we moved of down to the other side of the park to do a small creek run - which we all got through nice and slow across and out the other side, were we found our 1st test on a hill climd that was loose, steep, rocky and soft powder with off camber corners.
The hill was just out of reach for x-box (being too light and long could not dig down enough to get traction and Harry without lockers) Nath being T.E.C went back down with them and they then headed off back to ridge hill. We continued up and found some new tracks which was good. Camo had snapped another engine mount and he and Zoe took an easier track out and back to camp. Dranged and Icefyre then came on the radio to say they had reached Rover. We got back to camp at 5:20pm and settled in for dinner and a few cold ones around a great camp fire. Thanks to Stevo for providing the entertainment value again with his adapted Dingo walk, which we will call possum walk, for Rover.
Saturday was an early start for most of us although we where meet with cold rain that was to stay the rest of the day, at least it kept the dust down and turned normal tracks into slippery ones. After breakfeast we took off through the play area and across into some new tracks, we all got through with some very good new creek runs for the hard core and easy track to run along the top so everyone could watch the action. No damage and no recoveries and time for lunch.
After lunch we headed down to the rockcrawl action only to find them coming the other way, tacks that were dry and dusty were now slippery. We went on to the old mine and then off to find fire wood via the caves and up the last extreme track before heading back to base. MMMMM wet track, loose rocks and first recovery, Stevo popped a tyre of the bead on the steppest part of the track, Camo backed down and we put a snatch on Stevo to hole him in place while the car was jacked up and tyre changed with the help of Justin expertise and a willing hand form everyone else. Just as the light fadded over the hill Stevo was snatched up and over the rock, we then in the darkness got the rest of the cars over the same area without and further recoveries. Then on the main track we stopped and out came the chainsawa and firewood was cut under spot lights from the cars. Back to camp th fire was roaring and rain stopped a few cold ones were drunk and a meal was prepared.
Sunday we woke to a sunny day were breeky was had and off for one last drive down to Suzies canyon, where we all gave it crack apart from Stevo and Harry, but with clear directions we all got throught with a few minor dents and scratches, then back to camp - lunch and pack up for the journey home.
Will wait for Stevo and Camo to post videos and photos for all to see but thanks to all for a great weekend.
