When one removes the diaphragm cover off their VE pump, does the punch mark on the diaphragm/cone assembly indicate the "minimum" adjustment, the "maximum" adjustment or the center point between the two?

Ok Just checked and discovered for myself... The dot indicates the centre position and its best to remove the diaphragm and examine which side is the maximum side as it could differ from vehicle to vehicle:D

See the Other VE thread on the manual that covers all this....
I would mine up to the max settings and still was ok on EGT....

Ok thanks for the tip, got an EGT so it should all be safe. Just to clarify did you mean you wound yours to the max settings and it was still ok? or you would wind up to the max settings?

I would mine up to its max on the cone and adjusted the low boost to the best i could get from it. it smoked hard on low load, but pulled like a freight train

In my limited experience, the dot mark can not be relied upon to indicate where the max or min position is. That part can be assembled in any rotational position on the cone stem.
From a visual inspection of the cone, it is difficult to judge the maximum/minimum position. However if you also look just under the diaphragm, there are 2 machined flats that will help.

Are you all talking about the adjustment to improve low speed pickup? It was on a thread awhile back and there was three things you could play with depending on how brave you were. Pat

No, the control cone adjusts settings for full throttle. The one to improve low speed pickup is the easiest to adjust, its the stop screw on the outside of the housing under the cap.

Not quite right.
Because the cone is eccentric, rotating it increases/decreases the fuel throughout the range from zero to maximum boost.
