2 Landies over 8 years. The second a TD5 Defender of 5 years. Sold the Fender last week for a new 07 Prado. Started having some "unusual" electrical probs with the Fender over the last few months eg. total black-outs (drove back to camp with a hand held spottie), a melting light switch the most recent. The real issue is I had lost my confidence in the beast. What if it went on the blink in the back blocks and not just on the beach one night on Straddie? Couldn't risk it (re: the family). Miss the beast already as well as discovering Prados owners don't wave back to me :D.
In general terms the Fender has copped all that I've thrown at it...and that's been a lot. One example - if you look on the back page of the current Overlander edition (Up The Creek comp) you'll see my predicament on the CSR last year. Did this contribute to my electrical issues...could well be. One thing for sure, the Prado will need to be "tricked up" pretty well to match the Fender off-road but that's my plan. Cheers guys.

You fool
Enjoy the broken diffs, leaking HEVAC system, busted CVs... Electrical gremlins... And bending back diffs that are plaguing the Prados....
A simple fix would have solved your electrical issues....
Sorry to hear your leaving the fray.....

If he'd got a Patrol there would at least have been some respect. But a hairdressers truck, jees!

Is there any respect, really? A trade from Classic to Plastic? Yes a Plado is fairly capable, and has a better approach angle than a standard D2.
Personally I'd prefer a car that was built to perform instead of being made from melted down and recycled PET bottles

for the second time in one day..
some of the remarks are a bit pointed, unless of course you are really good mates...
you can get a point across without the name calling and bone pointing, surely...
all it needed by the sounds of it was a $35 relay or one of drivesafes headlight upgrade kits.
first thing i did to mine when i got it...

To go from a Defender to a Prado I'm guessing there were more reasons for the swap than a melted headlight switch. Not that I've ever driven a Defender (or even been a passenger in one, any offers? :)).

Well, a new Prada is a bit more flash than an old 'fender
and I think the SWMBO and her buddies would like it -
I have an older Disco and gets heaps from my lot that I'm not in a Touraeg or a BMW or a Merc thingy.......
Image.....such is the modern life...
What did you do with the Landy, Miker?
Many here would happily take it off your hands....
Good luck with it.

Give me an older car and an investment of some sort any day over a new car.

don't worry utemad - my older disco will only ever make way for a slightly newer one... like a last build Disco 1 1998-9 model; but for $64k driveaway a new D3 sounds real good.... just need the $64k:D or wait few years & get one for half that (or less)......

Guys, guys guys...all right to try and salvage some cred my lease was up on the Defender and there was no replacement available. I had to purchase something and I have been quite impressed with the Prado's performance when my mate accompanied me on a couple of serious runs. A suspension upgrade and an airlocker makes it a competent (yes a touch bland) tourer.
God bless y'all !

Yes...I love(d) it but it was the straw that broke the camels back.

I've read here a bit about fender light switches and the absence of a relay ??
Is this an issue across the board with all models, or has it been addressed in the last few years. Wondering about my 03 fender.....
Cheers

No Roscoe. Nothing new, even early Rangies had the same problem of melting light switches. Did the relay job on our old Stage 1 for the same reason.

So mate ... are you saying it's still an issue??
