Edelbrock intake manifold + rochester carb....

G'day lords of tech...:cool:

I have been doing some reading and I am interested in fitting an Edelbrock performa intake manifold and Rochester quadrajet carb to an old 3.5 I have sitting in the shed.

I was also thinking I'll put in a new cam shaft and do up the heads (port/polish etc with bigger valves).

Anyway to get to the question....

Can anyone confirm if this setup will fit (height wise that is) under the bonnet of a 110?

If it does fit what do people use to attach the air box to the top of the carb? Have something custom made?

Any other thoughts are always welcome...but I want to use the Rover V8. Not interested in a conversion.:)

Well......I was doing some reading up on mods to improve the little 3.5.

The 3.5 in the county is a low comp motor, but the one out of the pig (in the shed) is high comp.

With a high comp motor and a stage 2 (I think) cam shaft, ported heads with oversize valves and the edelbrock manifold and rochester carb you can get around 250 HP from a 3.5.:cool:

The 3.5 is a great little motor in my opinion and seeing how I have one in the shed I thought I would do something with it rather than just toss it out.

Calder might still be out of my range.....but 250 horses is more than enough for me.:D:D:D

Mick, look for a holden 308 filter housing and modify the end of the trumpet to take a hose of the diameter you require. Havent used one myself but ie that they are much better than a holley offroad.

I have a Quadrajet on an Edelbrock manifold on my 3.5 Rangie. I removed the efi to fit it. The carby will work at all angles you can dirve at without the car falling over. Cant tell you about clearances in a County but when working out the fit for mine I forgot about the square to speadbore adaptor so my chosen airfilter is a very tight fit but it does fit with the bonnet closed.

The Rochester Quadrajet is an excellent carburettor, probably the highest development of the carburettor. It has small primary throats and quite large secondary throats. Depending on model, the theoretical maximum flow is from 803 to 850 cfm. Total thoat area is greater than (3) x 2" SU's. The float chamber is small and centrally located and can cope with quite steep angles without problems arising. For extreme off-road use, a plastic spacer or packer is available which limits fuel volume and prevents much fuel "rush away" in extreme angles or sudden braking or acceleration. Get the book "Rochester Carburetors" by Doug. Roe and Bill Fisher, HP Books, P.O. Box 5367, Tucson, Arizona. This book has a section covering preparation of Quadrajets for off-road racing.

It went for 325 when you can get them new for about 370-380 from rocket industries or 250 AUD from the us plus shipping. Had my eye on it as I am going to do the same thing but wouldnt have paid more than 220-250 secondhand
