Just to warm you southeners up a bit  here's some pictures of around Gove last weekend. Last Sunday was Territory Day, so Fireworks were available for purchase. Unfortunately the idiot factor of fireworks means there's not as much available each year.
It was quite a cold evening and by 8pm on Sunday night I was wearing a jumper it was about 18C

:( Yes, but the idiots seem to always find more. Got to bed just after 12pm and awake again at 3am. It was a great night but I do prefer it when others shoot the fireworks into the sky and not at cars, other people etc.
Loved the photos.

Nice pics :D.
On the fireworks topic, people here seem to lose their minds around this time of year. I hate that fireworks are freely available. It would be OK if people bought what they wanted and used them at the allocated time (which is only for a few hours on one night), but I know the next month will be punctuated with explosions ranging from mild to literally window rattling. The poor dog doesn't like it at all! Whenever I hear about people being injured using them illegally (fireworks, not dogs!), a part of me has no sympathy at all.

Couldn't agree more and to make it worse, "single young guy's with high disposable income" and "fireworks available for purchase" are 2 statements that shouldn't be put together. It'll be more like 3 months of explosions over here.
Glad you clarified the bit about the dog:eek:

what camera? lens?
pretty wide angle... but then I notice your avatar is a seriously wide fisheye lens, about 7-8mm??

Camera's a Nikon D200, lens is a Nikkor AF-S 10.5mm f/2.8 DX. The 10.5mm lens works with Nikon Capture NX to allow for digital lens correction of the fisheye at the click of a button. Pictures were then cropped.
Got the camera and lens last week and have had some serious fun with it. The 16MB files are a bit of a juggle, I'm going to need another Terabyte NAS before too long:(
The avatar is without lens correction and then spherized in Photoshop.

Fireworks! Huh! petty performers. A friend has acquired a WW2 6" howitzer sans breech block. We are trying to determine how to make an interrupted thread breech block on the available machine tools. He says he wants to fire it on New Year's Eves before he dies. He has a couple of smaller fire arms as well but it is the 6" that he desires to complete and use. That should rattle the neighbour's windows.

Had a fun day today. Went bush in the Defender - that's no tracks, where the Defender excels! - didn't even stake a tyre (:D).
Here's a few shots of around the Giddies River area.
Hmm... things could get ugly at that speed :confused:

Great pics. I miss Darwin so much, especially in winter :(
Don't miss morons with fireworks though. Especially when said morons are throwing them in my garden
