Problem you'll have is the activation mechanism...software is easy to find, you just won't be able to use it without a code.

I use Tracks4Australia (http://www.gpsoz.com.au/tracks4australia/) (Free for non-Pro version) on mine, and Mapsource (http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=209) (Free download) to put the bits of the map I want on my GPS.

The tracks4Australia website says that you need one of the other garmin softwares (metroguide etc) for mapsource to work. Is this true, or can I download mapsource and use it straight away on the legend when I get it?

I have a GPSMap 60CS, and I just use Mapsource and load the maps into it, then upload the sections I want into the GPS. From memory, you get the trip and waypoint manager with the GPS itself, but I've long since lost the CD it came with! :oops2:

I've got a map60 and I use a couple of free sets of maps that I load onto the unit with mapsource.

Tracks4australia is one that I use, sometimes with contours australia set overlaid. the shonkymaps is another good set that would be better with a colour screen. have a look here and you will find info on most of these free map sets.
