Ford-engined Perentie, eh? Not sure whether I shold be impressed or yawn.
"First ever 6x6x6" - I guess so, but it's a bit of a dodge when the basic design of the vehicle dates from the mid-80's and the gearbox is actually a 12 speed (taking the transfer into account).
Someone posted another Perentie 6x6 offshoot a short while ago, used for military trials in Eastern Europe.

Land Rover have displayed their new prototype 6x6 Defender at this year's military vehicle show DVD
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2007/07/530.jpg (http://adserver.adtech.de/adlink|3.0|365|1240500|0|170|ADTECH;loc=300;key=ke y1+key2+key3+key4;grp=[group]) With six wheel drive and six gears on the main gearbox, this is Land Rover's first 6x6x6 and is specifically aimed at military markets.
The chassis is widened and beefed up and features coil-sprung suspension at the front, with leaf springs at the rear. All of the axles are driven.
For more information, see the August issue of Land Rover Owner International on sale 18th July 2007
Sounds like a perentie with a 6 speed gearbox to me ;)
Looks awesome though!

it's not called a perentie any more, it's called a "woody" because it gives you one.:)

I suppose they needed something to compete with the Pinzgaur, which has been stealing military contracts. If they made a commercial as well as military variant, it would help establish it and boost sales.
some civvy applications
12-16 seater safari bus
hi capacity ute - mining, farming
recovery vehicle (maybe with some slip on tracks to make it a half track for snow rescues)
long range desert expedition vehicle
broadcast base
etc

Leaf springs at the rear!
Must be some kind of British Leyland retro attempt at a sick joke.

Interesting you mention the track Michael, on the local ski resort they have a 6x6 quad bike that has rubber tracks that they fit over the wheels in winter!

G'day Folks :)
That would be the "Penman Trekker" that was featured in "Military Machines International" May 2006;) there was a full feature write up by Ian Young, that vehicle was debuted at Defence Vehicle Dynamics Show in 2002, in that feature the vehicle has a selectable 6x6 capacity and was coil sprung rear suspension, and was fitted with 305x60x19.5 tyres:) OR they have had another look at the Australian Trials vehicle that is still over there(in the Heritage Centre I think)
cheers

Their getting desperate, Pinzies, and Merc's have got them on the run, I wonder how suseptable they are to EMF.......why they never looked earlier at some sort of retro-fit mine protection for the current models, is beyond me, it could have been offered as a cheap alternative. I guess the only business their in is selling new cars..............HeHeHe

actually, pre the FORD take over, Land Rover Special Vehicles had their own web site and you could order various levels of "demountable" ballistic protection for Defenders. This meant that say a News agency could armour up a Defender in the Middle East, and when they replaced the car, retrofit the armour to their next Defender. You could specify the level of armour too I think, eg 9mm NATO pistol round or 50mm cannon shell.
FORD have out sourced the special vehicles to Conrico and they show troopies and mercs on their web site. Go figure.
I tell a lie, last time I checked they did, now I see Fords and Land Rovers again.
edit: well sort of, the armoured cars are still mercs & cruisers.

Have a look at one of the websites that describe the Perentie - these have a leaf spring rear suspension setup that is far more effective than the coil spring 6x6 conversions.
