Ok, does anybody do conversion kits to put Chrysler hemi engines into a range rover with a 4 speed manual??

what other conversion plates are available?

I've looked at the castlemain rod shop as well as dellow automotive, but they mostly do chevy, ford or holden conversions, as my brother can get some hemi engines cheap.

This is for my brothers project rangie ute by the way, nothing of mine.

I have seen Series vehicles converted to hemis, he could use a Series gearbox. ;)

He broke them in his series landy, hence why he went to a range rover :lol2:

What!!! are you going to stick a 426 Chrysler Hemi V8 in a Rangie, Last time I looked they weghed close to 800lbs, BTW these engines were the only hemisperical head engine built by Chrysler (other than the modern 4's), Regards Frank.

a 318 is what was mentioned, but then again, I think that they were calling them chev hemi's. I can't say I think much of my brothers mates intelligence

I thought the inline 6 cylinders were hemispherical combustion chamber design as well.

There are quite a few Series LR's getting around with the Aust. Chrysler Hemi 6 fitted and this would be my engine of choice for a Series LR repower. Bill Winter of Acacia Ridge Brisbane was the first to my knowledge to do this, long ago now. His 'phone is 07 3274 4373.

At least you could put a 727 torque flight behind the hemi which will allow you to run the LT 230 trans

Someone say HEMI?

The 318 fireball is a tough engine and bloody cheap. My choice would be a 245 or 265 Hemi six, just as tough (even I couldn't break one) and as said before mated to a torque flight 727 and an LT230.

Obviously unless you'd use an adapter you would have to change to a chrysler 727 due to bellhousing, but isn't the RR 727 slightly rotated (thought i read this somewhere but probably wrong)

Correct but i reckon you could possibly rotate the bellhousing slightly to compensate. I have seen a few 318/360 powered rangie's around.

I measured the 265 Hemi sitting in my yard and it has a SAE No.3 bell housing bolt pattern. If anyone is interested, I also have a TorqueFlite (push button) from a Valiant AP6 ute which was an exchange reco. box and had only done 10,000 miles before the ute was retired due to excessive frame rust. And I have a new Redline four barrel intake manifold with a Rochester Quadrajet ( four more for spares) and CM Valiant split exhaust headers to go with. PM me if interested

1.you willl have trouble fitting a Hemi 6 in because of the length of the motor. 2.Its not easy to fit a hemi 6 to a 727,because not many Torqueflite blocks got made and they all had trouble with busting flex plates.. Now you can get a kit to put a Turbo 350,400,700 behind a Hemi for about $550,no flex problems then. I have been running a 318 for about 10 years or so.Dead stock just with elec ignition.Nice easy power that drives the 35s with std 3.5 diff gears very easy. Its less work to fit a 8 than a 6 to a Rangie because of the engine length. In the next few months this engine and 4 speed will be up for sale with the elec ignition and gas set up with it.If ya want to know more about fitting a 318 or 360 just ask i have done it all at some time..

Drop in a 360 hemi.

use 727

Lt230

make sure it has the .99 gear set.

The Hemi 6 block, water pump face to clutch housing face is only 1/4" longer than a red Holden. I have seen a Range rover with a Cross flow Falcon fitted and they are a bulkier, heavier engine than a Hemi 6. Another advantage, in Qld. anyway, is cheaper registration than a V8. Rego. in Qld is based on number of cylinders. A properly built Hemi 6 with appropriate carburation and exhaust, cam, etc. can produce a very reliable and tractable 250hp. or a not so tractable 300+.

Not that easy, RR 727 uses a different casing

Yeah ya right a Hemi 6 is so easy to make good power from.Ah the sound of a Rangie coming through the bush, with the Hemi spining at 6 grand and the triple carbs cracked wide open.SWEEEEEET.Yeah a 250 hp Hemi would be ok, but not as easy to get around in up the bush in as a stock old bigger cubed V8. If you are keen on a 6 cylinder how about AU or BA Ford stuff. May be a bit long than a Hemi, but is EFI and you can get them cheap these days. Hemi for me street car and a 8 for the 4 wheeler..

falcon engine is quite a lot shorter. and weight wise im not saying your wrong but i doubt it. falcon engine is ally headed and the hemi's are quite bulky
