I know Dad is an ex Auto Mechanic I’ve been around more cabs then in them
But are they any good will they perform as good as BFG muddies off road or are they artily crap, will they balance up or be like a bouncing ball
My feelings are they will be crap but an old 4wd buddy had them on a RR and he swore by them but no offence 80’s RR is not exactly as smooth as D2
the other problem is that it seems there sizes arnt exactly wide range

Yes i have a set of muds, thay are BFG Copy's more or less, 245/70/16 on our 98 Disco, very happy with them on and off road.
Not as noisey as I thought they would be on road:eek:, but after our Dunlop ats they are great in mud but also the steep rocky type tracks, havent had them in the sand as yet though, so look out Beachport next year!:woot:.
We gave them a real hard time at avoca a few weeks ago, and they came through with no probs at all.
The price I got mine for was about $115 Fitted, and as it turned out I paid for 4 but got 5 tyre's :whistling::angel:

I would just double-check their speed & load rating and then run it by insurance company.

Found the tyres still available on the Pro Comp 4x4 site - maybe not belly up, you never can tell though.
Are they well balanced tyres (unlike Dunlops) and have you found them long lasting?

Buyer snaps up Motorway Tyres
A Melbourne-based company has bought the failed Stawell business Motorway Tyres after three months in voluntary administration.
Ramonte bought the business yesterday for an undisclosed amount.
It says the the business will continue to operate under the name of Motorway.
The chief executive of the surrounding Northern Grampians Shire, Gina Lyons, says Motorway is one of Stawell's biggest employers and the sale is a relief.
"My understanding is that they will continue with the current staff, there are plans to expand the business, so they're very much looking at growth which will, of course, mean more staff. As to the unsecured creditors I couldn't really comment on that side of things," she said.

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2007/07/488.jpg
Major expansion plans have been released by Motorway Tyres which will result in the creation of new jobs at the Stawell plant.
Motorway's General Manager Malcolm Hurst confirmed the expansion yesterday and said potentially, the company could be employing up to 200 personnel by Christmas next year. At present, Motorway has an employment base of around 70.
Stage one of the plan has already been implemented, with the commissioning of new equipment that has been brought down from Sydney.
Mr Hurst said the company was about to move into stage two of the expansion, which would involve the construction of new factories at the Western Highway site.
"We are putting stage two into the planning stage now and this will result in the building of new factories at the site," he said.
The new development will also coincide with the world first launch of the company's innovative new product SmokinJoe at the end of the year.
SmokinJoe is a range of burn out tyres that emit coloured smoke.
Mr Hurst said the launch alone would result in the creation of new jobs at Motorway.
"We are already advertising for four more people to join the company and I expect our numbers to increase to about 100 by this Christmas," Mr Hurst said.
"The company will continue to expand and by the end of next year, numbers could increase to around 200."
Mr Hurst said this would involve sales staff, as well as employees at the factories in Stawell.
He said the Motorway sales team had been relocated to Melbourne and this had fit in well with the company's expansion program.
"All of our customers are in Melbourne, so it makes good sense for our sales team to be based there too," he said.
"It not only assists our operation, it makes sense from a convenience point of view as well."
Motorway Tyres, established in Stawell in 1934, was sold in October last year to Melbourne-based company Ramonte Pty Ltd.
Ramonte showed a strong interest in expanding its involvement in rubber and looked at the fact that Motorway had a high quality product and a strong reputation. Mr Hurst said the company had operated well in the past 12 months and it was exciting to be able to put expansion plans in place. "It is certainly good news for Motorway Tyres and good news for the Stawell community," he said.

bloody hell I just called the WA supplier again !?!?!?!?
Now they can get them but they are $235 each for the 31 x10.5x15
and that's a remould ?
now lets think big brand name MT or a remould, hmmmm

Well I guess size is a moot point if they are charging that much for them then obviously they only want to sell new ones.
Shame at the right price I would buy them.

Oops I should have said that was for the chunky mongrel tyre.
The MT might be cheaper?
Has anyone bought the mongrel tyres in another state?
Maybe we are getting stung for shipping in WA.

i haven't seen them in the NT but then again I have been out of the tyre scene for a while, might have to have a look around and check prices on all of them.
But before I go the next step and buy new tyres the following is going to happen: a 2" body lift, those rubber flares talked about on a post here abouts, and off set rims. Then the tyres. may even go those slower ratio crown wheel and pinion mentioned in here some where (never did work out if slower ratio was higher or lower)
will try to get this done before the next wet coz in the dry nothing is a challenge even with AT's

No problem with balance, they were on the Discovery for two & a bit years, now on the 80" with plenty of tread left.

I emailed procomp today about thier tyres again.
They replied that they only deal wholsale to WA through OL in Balcatta.
Anyhow I called OL and asked about the cost of MT's (I asked about mongrel before) the cost is $213 each for a 31x10.5R15 !
What are they thinking who would by a remould for $213 when a new tyre can cost less, (depending on brand).
Has anyone paid much less then $200 in other states I suspect they are
inflating the price so you buy new tyres at a better profit for them.

Rovernit
Yeah they should fit. If they are the mongrels you might get some rubbing due to the chuncky lugs. You can fit up a 32 inch (265/75/r16) no worries and have heard of people fitting up to 33 inch JT2's (which are actually a large diameter - around 34 inch I think).
Check out this site for tyre conversions - http://www.autisticcuckoo.net/tools/units/tyres.php

I user to work for Motorway in the mid to late 80's when i lived in Stawell.
I would check that you are getting a good casing when you buy them and check the inside of the tyres if you can (before fitting), for sidewall separation which will be a bubble on the inside of the casing somewhere, and check for any odd raised areas in the tread, which would also mean a separation.
Things may have changed since i was there, but sometimes the odd dud tyre would get through the inspection points, since they were only checked by eye after coming out of the oven before being sent to the moulding area.
I used to run a set of Bandag cold caps( brawny pattern) on an old cruiser and found they were really good too.;)

well i have mongrel muddies on my car, and allthough noticed bad wear on the fronts (which is due to my car not the tyres as the backs are fine)
i'm really happy with them
now when i went to buy tyres for my car i was orignally going to put bfg's on i got quoted for 245/70/16's for 5 tyres nearly 1500 dollars i nearly fell over.........
to put 5 mongrel 255/70/16's tryes on cost me 900 dollars so i figured with the money i saved i would only need to put another 300 dollars to get another set of 5 so even if they didn't last as long as the bf's i've almost got 2 sets for the price of one so i went with the mongrels
the guy that fitted them for me said that they were pig to get balanced, but apparently all remoulds are....
when i he realised that the car was mine and not ians he laughed in my face told me that they would be noisy and that i was in for a dam bumpy ride and look at me as if to say "buy a hyundi sweet heart"
to which i replied MATE i drive a landrover that is deisel that bangs squeeks and rattles do you think i would really care if my tyres are noisy or a little uncomfortable:eek: i think not
i took the car back to him a while after to have my tracking done, and he drove the car! he came back with shock on his face and said he cant believe how well the tyres drove he also said that they are no where near as noisy as some of the muddies he had fitted recently......
so although the tyres ARE noisy and when you first put them on your get shaken to death as the blocks are really quite square when they first go on........ i think they are good value for money, they are aggresive and from reports they do wear well, not that i can comment as the front end of my car has obvioulsy got something going on.
oh one thing that i forgot to mention is they are directional so that might also be something to consider when buying

In the 4WD monthly magazine there a Taiwan brand of muddies tested on a landrover the author compared them to BFG and Coopers says there as good a 265x75x16 retail at $245 fitted appose to the $300 plus for BFG and Coopers
They look tuff I think I'll go for these, when the time calls there distributed by Federal Tyres ;)
