current owner says it has a thrust bearing noise in reverse when cold...usual landy thing he says !! is it ?..has done just under 200,000 Kms..Is a nice vehicle but I am not sure...Td5...also has a leaking A/c somewhere..hhmmm
any advice.. ?

AC is an easy fix, if you know where to take it.

Don't know about the thrust bearing, somebody will though

mine was noisy also (2004) but it was changed under warrenty.
and yes only when it was cold, after about 2min it would go.

still its a defender there arnt alot of things wrong with them.

Mine's a bit noisy for about a minute when cold - 1997 300Tdi 110.

Have you owned / driven a Land Rover before?

If not, it takes a little to get used to, then nothing else compares. It's a great car to drive long distances and even through traffic.

I have Td5 1999 Xtreme and it goes Bloody brilliant (Touchwood)
i also was a bit worried about the Td5 but again its Bloody Brilliant(Touchwood)

Mine was also noisy. I was told that if it is not changed. In time it will damage the end of the input shaft. So Ii had it changed along with the clutch because the box was out. Silly $4.50 part cost me all up about $1100.00 and that was mates rates on labour.

thrust bearings always make noise, its just with no insulation in them you cn here it all in a deefer...

nothing to panic about untill it sounds like its trying to eat itself instead of just moaning....

if your going to the effort of replacing it replace the clutch too.
