could i ask if there are any benefits to removing the self levelling unit on the rear axle of my 110 CSW? i already have LR spec HD springs in place and bilstein shocks. i have heard about it causing a pivot point in the centre of the axle which can upset handling.
thanks.

given that during articulation you want the axle to "swivel" around the center thats not such a bad thing untill you start lifting and shifting suspension setups and then it will hinder your droop...

If you have a look at the A Frame setup on almost any stock deefer(perentine, disco1, some of the rangies) they pivot at the top of and in the middle of the axle housing....

If you have fitted heavy duty springs (and hence it is sitting higher), removing the self levelling unit will make no difference at all to ride, handling or anything else. On the other hand if it is in good working condition, and you are looking for a home for it............ (mine doesn't work)

If the self levelling unit is carrying part of the load, it is certainly supported on the centre of the axle (so this force is not part of the force resisting roll), but in fact it is a relatively small proportion of the load, and I suspect that most of the change in handling attributed to this is in fact due to the higher centre of gravity, although a little of it will be due to the fact it is supported on the centre. Note that 110s fitted with self levellers also were fitted with rear anti-roll bars, and the net result would be pretty similar to no self leveller and heavier springs as far as handling goes, but the variation with load would be a bit different.

I'm not sure the AULRO courier service extends to Scotland, JD ;)

I'll deliver it if someone wants to pick up the fuel tab and provide the wading kit + snorkle extentions

If you have already replaced the leveled (thin) rear springs with the unleveled (thicker) springs you can bin the leveler and the anti-roll bar. All they are doing now is creating more rattles.

This is good to know, i was about to bin the one on my new county as i put in some heavier taller springs. Not sure if it works or not but makes some humming sounds occasionally.
