So TD5 Defenders in Aus haven't always been badged Xtreme's? When did they come in, and what was here before hand? Just wondering as I'd never heard of an Xtreme before moving to Aus.

IIRC around 2000.... So pretty soon after the TD5 was here (about a year).
Its a local market thing (like GS is in UK)....
Basically LRA ordered Defenders with ABS and stuck a knock off ARB bullbar and a few stickers on it and viola! a Defender Extreme!
Pity PAG are tight buggers and didnt fit the correct Factory springs to suit the barwork!

I'd have thought a swap to the 130/110HD front springs would have been pretty easy after the effort of fitting a bullbar.
Does that mean an Xtreme is a base spec UK Wagon with a bar as opposed to a County or XS model? I'm at the point where I want to spend a fair bit of cash on mine, and can't decide whether to bother on a '94 TDi, or try (again!) to find a later TD5...as I've given up hope of getting a 90 CSW. :(
Oh, and sorry for the hijack! :)

when we bought our 110/130 in Oct 2000
we had the option to order in a plain jane TD5 Defender no ABS or Trac Con
but went with the Extreme for better after sales.........

I bought my TD5 Defender 'Extreme' brand spankers in 1999 - it was the last of the 'first batch' into Oz.
At that time you could get the TD5 (basic vehicle) with out ABS/ETC, Alloy Wheels,
Bullbar, Stickers.
Only the 'Extreme' pack had ABS/ETC
I think later models may have come with ABS/ETC regardless of 'Extreme' package? (Didn't they drop back to one model?)

you see a few 99/2000 td5 fenders going through the yards. usually white with no t/c or abs. around the 20 g mark. i am interested in this model, but have to wait until house reno's:(. its allright though because i still have a 93 fender to drive;).
david.
ps look in those picture books of 4wd's for sale, the larger rural 4wd yards get them through.

I don't think any 130 Defenders had ABS/TC.

Correct, and I think these were the ones that needed it most, towing and carrying big loads etc. :mad:Landrover marketing:mad:
My uncle went to buy a new 110 H'top in 1988 only to find there were no diesel options, so had to buy a county to get the 4BD1. ( And this motor sits in my RR now...) A county SW is not much use on a farming property....:(
