I've noticed on an ad for the Exide Orbital the following:

"totally sealed sprial wound maintenance free battery for starting and deep cycle for post 1998 vehicles"

Why post 1998? Why couldn't it be used in a 1994 Diesel D1? or any D1 for that matter?!

Anyone happily running one in their pre-1998 LR?

I have one on order which is going into my '94 110, and the guy I bought from has fitted them in everything from Series vehicles through RR Classics to just about every type of Defender with no issues. Actually, he's close to you - if I remember the name or the address (In Bayswater somewhere) I'll PM it to you, as he was far cheaper than anywhere else, hence why I'm getting it shipped over rather than buying locally.

i think it has something to do with the europeian(sp?) battery sizing from
that date? its not to say that one wont fit, i think they are just covering their bums?

i can ring my account mannager at exide for you?

I run 2 in my Rangie, give Pirahna a ring, they were $100 cheaper (each) than any where, even Exide themselves
