Discovery Front Recovery Points

Not sure if there is anything here on the recovery points fitted to the Series 1 Disco on the LR factory bar. Mine has as, per the pictures, a plate on either side that is around 8mm thick with reinforced eyelets on it.
The plate is bolted to the chassis with two bolts on either side, holding also the wombat bar.

The bolts look dodgy and I will replace them to hopefully accommdate the recovery points I have purchased of Ladas on the outside of the chassis.

I don't really trust the ones on the LR bar as a recovery point, however I would be interested to hear other's opinions.

I wouldn't use the factory bar for recovery as those eyelets are just tie down points. I've heard that the bar will either just get pulled off or rotate upwards and bend your bonnet.

My bar is the same or similar and I put some recovery points like yours on the outside of the chassis rail. I had to bend the front mounts of the wombat bar out a bit on both sides to fit the recovery points.

That is the type of information i'm after, first hand experience or i guess just real stories of what not to do.

It does look like I will need to do some modifications in order to fit the new recovery points, I'll see how I go about it, it looks like the wombat bar will need to be bent as per your experience.

I had the same bar (nudge/wombat) and have used the recovery points on the bar with no problem at all (hand winch and snatch strap) recovery as long as you follow proper technique with both methods. I dont think that they are only tie down points as they (the bar) is not fitted to the disco on transit from the UK.

Depending on the design of your recovery points you may find that the tube section of the bar that curves down beside the eylets you have circled gets in the way too. You might have to grind or cut a bit off to shorten it.

Have you changed the bolts on it Discodazz98?
To me they don't look like tie down points, however what concerns me is the bolts. Mine are so bad, even after being tightened, if I stand on the bar, it will move down a few mills, and then I can easily pull it back up. That's why I thought replacing the bolts would help.

No I did not change bolts, but I would if I still had that bar as I upgraded to a second hand arb bar. I put high tensile stainless bolts on my new bar, I would suggest to stop any movement of your nudge bar drill a third hole for a third bolt in a triangle pattern if you can understand that.

I had that same "brush bar" on when I first got the Disco. I stupidly allowed one recovery using one of those points and the bar pulled back and damaged the fender. Not advisable recovery off those but if you do at least use both if them with a strap/bridle between them to spread the load and yes make sure bolts are hi tensile and tight.

I will leave the LR bar alone and I'll work on fitting the new ones for the outside of the chassis. (not that i'm planning on getting recovered soon)

I'm planing a trip to Noosa soon, at least I know i can use the tow bar when i need to recover my friend's Jeep :o

Not sure if it's Noosa, but that section of beach where you go through Tewantin, across the barge and on the beach for a drive up to Rainbow Beach. I hope it is not closed???
