Hi all,
Dune Car (Series 3 Stage 1) is having a bit of a strange problem.

The passenger side high beam is not working, dipped beam is fine.

I checked with a new light bulb that it is the not the light bulb. After testing that it didn't work I used the same bulb on the driver side and it worked fine.

The interesting thing is that I had my head under the bonnet when it stopped working.

The high beams were on and I was checking the spot lights (which only work when the high beams are activated). I heard something which is easiest described as a whistle and the passenger side high beam went out.

Any ideas?
Thanks,
Dante

When electrical wires burn up inside the insulation you sometimes get a hissing or whistling noise. If you have used those blue knife type quick connectors (much loved by tow bar installers) to connect the spotties to sense high beam I would start there. They can partially cut the wire through and cause it to later blow like a fuse under load. Give the wires a gentle pull to make sure there is still copper wire in the middle also look for discoloration (scorching) on the plastic insulation. Otherwise it is most likely a corroded connection somewhere at the front end. Lucas strikes again.

110s have a separate fuse for high and low - each side (4 fuses in total) - is the Stage 1 the same???

No :( Just one fuse for lights. Really threw me when I bought the 110.

I'd be checking all the connectors and, as mentioned, any splicing of wires.

Does it have the high-output loom modification?

Hi Dante, try checking the actual terminal in the headlight socket.

I have had a couple of customers have similar problems in the last month or so and both found that the original socket terminals just needed to be squeezed slightly closed to make them contact the terminals on the globe.

Cheers.

I have just looked at the wire diagram from my SIII book, the high beam lights runn on the U(blue)/W(white) wire all the way back to the dip switch but they join together in 2 places

1st - each headlight wires join to one (not sure where)
2nd - joins around the high beam lightin dash

from what you say i would guess the problem is between the 1st join to the head light and if this is the case it should be easy to find this first join then run another wire from there to the light and see if thats where the prob lies then should also be fixed.

If you want PM me with your email and i could scan the wire diag and send to you
